Scope of Position:

The candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering measurement and control systems and services for the S&T Research, Development, and Engineering divisions of Corning. The candidate must be eager to learn, self-motivated, and plan for growing within a hands-on engineering environment. They should have excellent communication skills (written and verbal), be able to interact with a wide customer base, and have ability to “think outside the box”. A working familiarity with PLC hardware, PLC software, instrumentation, and communication interfaces is helpful. The candidate should feel comfortable working with dynamically changing design requirements to provide automation control systems that meet our customer’s needs.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Design of AC and DC power distribution systems, measurement systems, control enclosures, and motion systems.
  • Specification of electrical and control components, wire, cables, and instrumentation.
  • Configuration and calibration of sensors, instruments, and actuators.
  • Working with and understand power control units, temperature and process controllers, motion controllers, PLCs, industrial PCs, mass flow controllers, and remote I/O expansion modules.
  • Interface PLC or PC to equipment with various communication interfaces such as RS485, Modbus/RTU, and Ethernet IP.
  • Development of skills to troubleshoot automation equipment including instruments, I/O, computers, sensors, actuators, motors, motor drives, temperature and process control circuits, and communication links.
  • Program Allen Bradley PLCs and debug issues with instrumentation, interfaces, and drivers.
  • A working understanding of classical control theory.

 

Required Skills:

  • Electrical systems and process controls experience and understanding.
  • Experience or knowledge of power control, instrument configuration and calibration, Ladder logic software development, and HMI design.
  • Capability to develop test requirements, put together engineering plans, and perform FATs.
  • Proficiency with electrical schematics.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Concept development, design, fabrication, test, installation, startup, and support of complete integrated control systems.
  • Ability to convert customer requirements into total systems solutions that meet technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Electrical systems and process controls experience and understanding.
  • Experience or knowledge of power control, instrument configuration and calibration, Ladder logic software development, and HMI design.
  • Capability to develop test requirements, put together engineering plans, and perform FATs.
  • Proficiency with electrical schematics.

 

Education and Experience: 

  • BS. in an Electrical or Controls related field.
