Overview:
The summer Corporate Sustainability Intern position is part of the corporate global sustainability and climate initiatives core and extended team, which is responsible for reducing Corning's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and helping to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius. Corning’s GHG reduction efforts are important to a wide range of our stakeholders, including our people, our partners, our investors, and the communities in which we operate. Based on models of future growth and emissions, Corning has adopted goals to reduce Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 30% and Scope 3 emissions by 17.5%, each by 2028. These goals align Corning with the Paris Climate Agreement and have been validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative. Corning has developed plans to meet these plus additional goals, and we have begun implementing those plans.
Key Responsibilities:
The intern will be engaged in and support various sustainability activities that can include:
- Leading the data collection and analysis efforts, as well as engaging with internal subject matter experts and utilizing AI tools to draft and optimize sustainability data responses for key sustainability reporting programs.
- Leading an effort to align our energy utilization and data approaches for materials produced.
- Building training / education materials for sustainability professionals.
- Supporting data collection and analysis from our business units and manufacturing sites to generate insights, as well as to support our GHG accounting efforts.
- Driving the optimization of tools to visualize and track sustainability progress, customer sustainability requirements, sustainability intel, and other shareholder needs.
- Working with our Global Supply Management organization to quantify our suppliers’ GHG emissions and help find ways to reduce the GHG emission in the products and services we purchase.
- Supporting resource efficiency and material utilization / waste reduction efforts.
At the end of the internship, the intern will have the opportunity to present their work to the sustainability center of excellence team. This role will equip the intern with real-life industrial experiences and challenges that will help them develop further expertise in the area of sustainability.

Education and Experience:
- Pursuing a BS or MS in environmental science, engineering, or related science discipline
Required Skills:
- Self-motivated multidisciplinary team player and eager to learn
- Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented
- Adaptable, creative and demonstrates good written and oral communication skills
- Strong interest in sustainability, climate, environmental, and social issues
- Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May-August 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
- Be interested in working for Corning Incorporated after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity
- Be willing to work in person at the posted job location
Desired Skills:
- Knowledge/experience in compiling and analyzing data sets
- Knowledge/experience in one of the following: materials science, critical materials/minerals, glassy materials, energy
- Experience with Power BI Data Visualization and Power Automation
- Experience in using AI-based tools
Travel Requirements:
No requirements, however, there may be opportunities to see other Corning Valley area facilities.

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
