The individual in this position will function as part of a high-performance glass melting team. The team is responsible for planning and executing numerous crucible melts supporting Glass Research, Glass Development, and Manufacturing. This position requires loading, unloading, and forming hot glass in a high heat environment using a variety of methods and techniques. This position entails daily interactions with internal service groups and internal customers. The individual must be customer oriented. Some project and cross departmental work is expected if time permits. Position requires training and demonstrating proficiency in safe work practices in cleaning precious metal with hydrofluoric acid on a limited basis.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Loading, unloading, forming of 5, 10, 20 pound crucible melts

• Process evaluation and support

• Furnace Maintenance

• Equipment maintenance/troubleshooting/repair

• Customer interaction with Glass Scientists

• Scheduling and multi-tasking

• Tour demonstrations for VIP, executive, and internal/external customers

• Managing melting consumable inventories

• Other project work when time permits

• Conceives/builds custom experimental tools for researchers

 

Travel Requirements: None

Hours of work/work schedule/flex time: Monday – Friday, 5am-1:30pm, flex time available depending on workload

 

Educational & Experience Requirements:

Associates Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Materials, and/or 5+ years of relevant technical experience. Experience in glass melting/forming/engineering a plus.

• Experience working with hydrofluoric acid

• Fabrication and welding experience a plus
