Scope of Position:

  • Lead cross-functional project teams developing and deploying state of the art data management and analytics systems. Work with design teams inside and outside Corning to extend the state of the art. This role will require a broad technology set integrating engineering, operations and information technology skills as well as very strong communications skills.
  • Work with customers to define project specifications.
  • Research applicable technologies.
  • Interface with industry experts to expand Corning expertise and experience in key emerging technology areas.
  • Working in a team environment - architect systems.
  • Lead and perform lab work to test new technologies, expanding our measurements and automation toolbox.
  • Deliver innovative capability to address a wide array of R&D & Business needs.
  • Mentor developing engineers and scientists.


Education and Experience

  • BS/MS/PhD EE/CS.
  • Prior experience Architecting/Implementing database driven data acquisition and management systems for R&D and Pilot Manufacturing use.
  • Experience working in technology development and leading development projects.
  • Able to participate in large development programs, interfacing with equipment and systems builders and providing back end solutions meeting cost, timeline, and capability deliverables.


Required Skills

  • Applicants should have experience in the following areas:
    • Software
      • Programming - C/C++, C#, Python, Java
    • Database – broad experience with data storage approaches; multiple SQL variants (Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres…), distributed architectures (Hive/Spark), NoSQL, etc…
    • Linux, Windows, Embedded platforms
    • MES – Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution System concepts and implementations:
      • Camstar, Factoryworks, etc. or Process Development Execution Systems.
  • Project Leadership – - Experience leading projects developing and deploying advanced data management systems for development and manufacturing.


Desired Skills

  • Experience/Interest in these technology areas:
    • Edge data ingest and compute.
    • IIoT – Industrial Internet of Things
    • Cognitive computing and Machine Intelligence
    • Cloud computing (Private and Public) and Analytics
    • Smart Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 concepts  
    • Big Data – collection, storage, curation, analysis and its application in manufacturing


Soft Skills:

  • Able to work independently and on teams
  • Familiarity with matrixed management structure
  • Able to present/sell concepts to internal customers (Strong Presentation Skills)
  • Able to interact effectively with customers and staff (Strong Interpersonal and Leadership Skills)
  • Experience communicating outside of the organization (CESMII, SMLC, etc…) and participating in relevant government and industry efforts.
  • Comfort working in both Engineering and IT space, ability to help facilitate collaboration across organizational barriers.
