Role Purpose

With increasing regulatory and consumer demand for enhanced automotive safety, manufacturers are turning to advanced sensor technologies like visual imaging, radar, and lidar to improve Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Historically, may of these sensors have been cost-prohibitive for integration into most mass-production vehicles. Corning has revolutionized this space with the development of proprietary processes significantly reducing manufacturing costs and opening the door to widespread adoption in the automotive industry.

 

As Corning transitions this innovative process from development to pilot production, we are seeking a motivated and talented engineering student to join our team and contribute to this exciting journey. Embedded within a team of experienced engineers and technicians, you will play an integral role in pilot manufacturing scale up, while gaining hands-on experience at the cutting edge of ADAS technology. This is a unique opportunity to work on a transformative process and help shape the future of automotive safety systems.

 

Please note - This is 4-6 month Co-Op experience beginning Spring 2026

 

Scope of Position:

Develop and execute a plan for pilot production scale up for thermal imaging lens manufacturing

Location of role is Painted Post, NY with occasional travel to manufacturing facilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Define equipment needs and optimized facility layout for pilot production
  • Complete decision analysis for pilot production facility selection
  • Estimate capital needs and create an initial appropriation request
  • Prepare and deliver oral and written communication to share progress with various stakeholders

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Enrolled in BS or MS program in engineering discipline (Mechanical or Industrial) with a graduation date between May 2026 and May 2027
  • Must be available to travel domestically 10-20% of the time.

 

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of pilot production scale up needs/requirements
  • Proficient in use of facility layout software
  • Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information
  • Computer literate in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Results-oriented

Experiences/Education - Desired

Experience/knowledge in the following disciplines:

  • Optics manufacturing
  • Polymer production manufacturing
  • Quality control systems
  • Lean manufacturing

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
