Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):

(1) Development of new or enhanced testing methods, primarily in the area of mechanical performance assessment

(2) Execution and interpretation of experimental testing to address customer reliability or product performance concerns  

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

(1) Develop and provide subject matter expertise in the mechanical performance elements of Corning Gorilla Glass products.
(2) Assist scientists with development of novel or modified measurement techniques (primarily product performance and reliability)

(3) Utilizing manual dexterity to prepare and/or build specimens for testing

(4) Conducting experiments, prepare report, analyze the data, and present conclusions and next steps to customers/stakeholders.

(5) Designing mechanical, electrical and multi-disciplined systems.  

 

Travel Requirements (please note if international):

Limited (<5%) Travel may be required in rare cases to support domestic or international customers .  

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: • M-F; 8am – 5pm • Evening and/or weekend hours may occasionally be required as business needs dictate

 

Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration)

Graduated with BS in Mechanical or Material Engineering . 2+ years of relevant work experience. Preferred candidate with MS in Mechanical Engineering.  

 

Required Skills (These are skills that candidates MUST possess)

• Strong background and experience in mechanical design (Solidworks 3D CAD) and prototyping. • Material testing experience at high strain rate.

• Experience in conducting Mechanical testing on Brittle materials.

• Excellent critical analysis, and logic/reasoning skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and people skills; ability to interact with management, team members and external vendors.

• Working knowledge of basic statistics and process engineering principles.

• Problem solving and troubleshooting skills  

 

Desired Skills (These are skills that would be nice for candidates to possess)

• Fractography

• Understanding of Digital Image Correlation Technique

• Fine Element Modeling

• Solid Mechanics and Fracture Mechanics

• Experience testing glass to failure in a lab setting and running experiments.
• Experience with Six Sigma DMAIC principles

• Collaboration in a multicultural environment
