Scope of Position:

(1) Expert in modeling of chemical strengthening processes for glass/glass-ceramic articles

(2) Use modeling and critical experiments to improve process understanding and help optimize product design & process levers to improve product reliability and other product attributes

(3) Collaborate to improve metrology

(4) Provide modeling support for customer requests  


Day to Day Responsibilities:

(1) Model chemical strengthening of glass and glass ceramics to understand impact of part geometry and process variables on stress profile and crack propagation

(2) Work with process, metrology, and reliability teams to correlate models with experimental data, help interpret stress measurements, and provide guidance to improve product reliability

(3) Propose, plan, execute and analyze experiments to improve understanding of chemical strengthening processes

(4) Drive process development for product optimization and to minimize variability

(5) Deliver documentation and IP as needed  


Travel Requirements:

10-20% international and domestic travel  


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

40 hours per week/flex time  


Education and Experience::

M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering fields


Required Skills:

(1) Fundamental understanding and experience in modeling of transport processes (heat conduction, mass diffusion, fluid flow), or other similar modeling experience

(2) Effective communication skills and ability to work in a highly matrixed and diverse organization across research, development, engineering, and manufacturing  


Desired Skills:

(1) Experience in commercial FEA software such as ANSYS, Abaqus, and COMSOL

(2) Experience and knowledge of hot glass forming and glass ceramics

(3) Experience in visco-elastic modeling

(4) Fundamental understanding of structure/property relationships in materials.
