Scope of Position: In this product test and analysis engineering position you will develop and implement test methods and solutions for a highly-technical engine exhaust after-treatment system. Primary responsibilities include experimental planning, test development, and data analysis supporting the development and application of engine exhaust after-treatment products in Corning Environmental Technologies (CET) Development. Focus will be on fundamental product understanding, experimental planning through execution, results analysis, with understanding of emission regulations and use of engine/dyno test bed and related test equipment to produce data packages for our business. Additional responsibilities include providing direction to Lab & Test Cell Operations in test scheduling and daily experimental troubleshooting, summarizing and reporting results to our project teams and advising them how to modify or advance our next generation products for improved performance


Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Design and execute experiments to meet testing objectives and respond to customer specific test requests utilizing lab and test cell teams.

• Collaborate with global test labs, application testing teams, and coating application fundamentals group to conduct product benchmarking, new product performance evaluations, and performance round robin studies.

• Hands-on testing support for test programs in engine dynamometer test cells, laboratories, and vehicles to characterize new after-treatment product introductions for Corning Incorporated:

o Developing tests and test protocols to evaluate product attributes/fundamentals and performance focused on: gas and particulate emissions; regulated & non-regulated emissions cycles; hydrodynamic; thermo-mechanical reliability; filtration performance; catalyst performance; and system evaluation. o Interpret data for program guidance and experimental troubleshooting. Ability to detect and trouble-shoot test bench performance variations.

 • Execute data analysis at the raw data level. Craft analysis templates and scripts that can be used during testing to efficiently report results and determine overall quality of completed tests. Use results to determine next steps and communicate results back to project teams and business management. Provide recommendations to project teams to resolve data inconsistencies and understand unexpected trends.

• Utilize internal and commercially available modeling code to normalize and predict product performance.

• Prepare, present, and publish technical documents in internal & public forums to share advancements in Corning Incorporated after-treatment technology.

• Work with internal modeling teams to provide representative data and guidance to modeling, based on experimental knowledge.


Travel Requirements: Limited travel (1-2 trips per year)

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40+ hours a week during normal business hours plus off-hour support when required based on 24/7 facility operating schedule.


Education and Experience:

• PhD in Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical Engineering or related discipline

• Master's Degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical Engineering or related discipline along with 2+ years of related work experience

• Ability to independently tackle problems, make data driven decisions and implement solutions.

• Strong experimental, instrumentation, and trouble-shooting skills to execute hands-on mechanical, electrical solutions & calibration procedures in lab scale environment.

• Strong data analysis skills to derive conclusion from experiments

• Organized, rigorous, independent.

• Technically well-rounded (fundamental, analytical, hands-on, and practical).

• Strong computer skills (MatLab, Excel, PowerPoint, Jump or Minitab).

• Ability to provide clear and concise direction to lab technicians


Desired Skills

• Knowledge of worldwide vehicle emission regulations and testing procedures with ability to implement within internal or external test facilities

• Understanding of internal combustion engines, engine management, and engine after-treatment products/systems.

• Familiarity with engine & engine dynamometer calibration & control.

• Familiarity with engine communication, testing and development tools including INCA, CANape, PUMA, C#, PLC, and associated data formats

• Familiarity with gaseous and particulate emissions analysis and associated equipment.

• Advanced programming, design, and/or modeling skills (CAD, Axisuite, Fluent, Comsol or other simulation programs)


Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership)

• Good teamwork skills including knowledge transfer and communication (oral and written).

• Ability to work in a matrix organization.

• Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment while supporting multiple projects simultaneously
