Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):

Provide technical and hand-on support for glass etching development projects at Corning. Support etching process and product technical transfer from development to manufacturing. Develop new etch concept and product through collaboration across multiple divisions.  


Day to Day Responsibilities: Design and execute glass experiments and support current projects in the areas of surface chemistry, glass etching, and glass strengthening. Process, analyze, summarize experiment data, document discovery and learning as word or power point report, invention disclosure. Transfer development process/product to pilot line and manufacturing. Trouble shooting etching related pilot line and manufacturing problems.  


Travel Requirements (please note if international):

10 -20% travel, overseas travel expected upon demand.  


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

5 days, 40 hour work week  


Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration)

B.Sc. in Chemistry, Engineering or Biology or equivalent 5 years of hands on experience on glass etching or wet chemistry or more.  


Required Skills (These are skills that candidates MUST possess)

• Ability to design, build and test novel experiments from ground up.

• Ability to solve manufacturing and pilot line problem using systematic approaches.

• Basic understanding of glass etching and etching equipment.

• Familiarity with statistical data analysis and working with large data-sets.

• Working knowledge of MS Office (word, excel, power point).

• Ability to document well and write test reports independently.  


Desired Skills (These are skills that would be nice for candidates to possess)

• Basic knowledge of statistical software such as Minitab or JMP.

• DOE, hypothesis tree, DMAIC.  


Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership) :

• Comfortable with ambiguity and multitasking among multiple projects

• Able to work in multidisciplinary projects

• Good communication skills to work with colleagues across multiple divisions

• Clear, concise oral and written communication
