Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group): Development Technician within the Product Performance and Reliability (PP&R) group, Specialty Material Development organization, will have key responsibilities supporting new Gorilla Glass product testing as well as investigation of customer issues. As part of the reliability programs team, activities include assisting scientists/engineers with test plans and test development, supporting/leading sample management, mechanical and reliability testing, data compilation and analysis. Role will also interact with other groups including research, development and product engineering to meet objectives.  

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

▪ Execute experiment/test plans regarding to product performance and reliability

▪ Optimize and/or maintain tools and equipment in accordance with the needs of product development and testing; work with the team and vendor to maintain adequate parts, fixture and equipment

▪ Utilize manual dexterity to prepare and/or build specimens for testing utilize proper glass/specimen handling

▪ Be able to track and document glass, material and methodologies for each process for every experiment

▪ Interface with broader S&T organization and business to generate and characterize specimens, and be able to interpret test results

▪ Record, log and report out on observations and test data, and present associated conclusions and next steps to customers/stakeholders

▪Utilize internal test request system to request tests, and facilitate glass samples and ion-exchange processing

▪ Be able to provide clear communication of project status and priority conflicts as samples/tests progress

▪ Conduct data compilation, analysis and documentation using reliability software (Excel, Minitab and JMP)

▪ Assist team with new test development to highlight performance or gain new understanding of products: design, testing, trouble shooting, documentation, data collection and training others

 

Travel Requirements (please note if international): Minimal, possibly up to ~5% to support domestic and/or international laboratories regarding to demo and new product launch  

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Typically 40 hours per week (~7AM-4PM or ~8AM-5PM) Monday through Friday Overtime may be required on certain occasions for critical workstreams  

 

Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration):

 

A.A.S. / Two-Year Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study  

 

Required Skills (These are skills that candidates MUST possess)

▪ Mechanical aptitude in working with small powered and/or non-powered hand tools, as well as larger test/metrology equipment

▪ Computer and data analysis/archiving skills, including familiarity with programs such as Microsoft Office, web-based work request systems, etc.

▪ The ability to maintain an accurate and thorough record of activities performed, including via a laboratory notebook  

▪ Experienced with data analysis, and skilled in clearly communicating results (verbal and written)

 

 Desired Skills (These are skills that would be nice for candidates to possess)

▪ Knowledge of mobile electronics construction, assembly and repair techniques, especially as pertains to mobile phones, tablets and PCs

▪ Mechanical design skills, by utilizing software such as SolidWorks or equivalent ▪Proficient in Excel and statistical software (Minitab, Jmp)

▪ Exposure to general materials science concepts including stress/strain behavior, fracture mechanics, etc.

▪ Familiarity with and/or experience in conducting strain gaging, digital image correlation and/or other contact or non-contact stress analysis techniques

▪Experience in Product Development
