Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.

Scope of Position:

  • Ensures all dies and fixtures are properly maintained with preventative maintenance to provide quality products. Monitor the useful life of dies and ensure the ongoing performance.
  • Prepares die orders, forecasts, and budgets. Creates and maintains a budget for supplies, die repairs and fixtures.
  • Supervises die group to ensure that all new or repaired dies meet incoming quality requirements and are capable of producing first quality product.
  • Works with plant and project teams to ensure proper practices for handling, usage, storage of dies, and that manufacturing best practices and safety are integrated into design of all new production tools. Works with Equipment Engineering to identify equipment requirements to support new programs and replace existing equipment.
  • Participates in functional area plant meetings and related activities representing Dies and hardware, and to assist in improving the plant's performance goals
  • Leads or supports manufacturing improvement initiatives to improve quality, cost, throughput, and safety.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Assures safety of operators and equipment and Complies with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Provide engineering expertise and leadership for process technologies within the Diesel Manufacturing Plant’s Forming Department (Corning Environmental Technologies).
  • Develops SME knowledge of dies, process and/or equipment in focused areas of manufacturing or engineering.
  • Trouble shooting and problem solving as needed in support of operations, including root cause identification, resolution, and implementation of corrective actions
  • Uses rigorous processes and technical knowledge to build detailed technical understanding for key process steps.
  • Uses simple statistical tools and Designed Experiments (DOE) in process problem solving and process improvement; Uses more sophisticated statistical tools and DOE techniques in problem solving and process/product improvement.
  • Supports new product introductions through equipment installation, process certification, documentation and training.
  • Implements and documents material, process and/or equipment changes.
  • Functions as a team member or team leader on focused projects.
  • Assure quality and repeatability of processes and products.
  • Executes cost reduction and improvement (DMAIC) projects in line with business objectives.

Travel Requirements: You can expect travel less than 10% of the time.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Your typical work schedule will be 8-5pm M-F although you should expect to have flexibility for off shift and weekend coverage is expected to support project assignments including overtime.

Required Education and Experience:

You should have a BS in Engineering (Materials, Mechanical, Chemical) as well as:

  • 1-3 years of engineering work experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Exposure to Lean and Six Sigma principles
  • Strong technical fundamentals with process engineering skills.
  • Aptitude for successfully driving to root cause and implementing step change improvement in manufacturing.
  • Project leadership aptitude, including ability to achieve results through teams.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at technical problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills
  • Strongly results oriented. Able to handle multiple complex tasks and set priorities with multiple internal customers.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Excel, including formulas and graphing functions.
  • Practical experience with basic statistics, familiarity with advanced statistical methods.
  • Demonstrated leadership or teamwork in accomplishing common goals.
  • Basic knowledge of Six Sigma (DMAIC) methodology.

Desired Skills:

  • Strong Mechanical Background, ability to read/interpret working industrial drawings
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in process improvement, measurement, characterization or ceramics processing
