Corning Incorporated is seeking an EHS Project Integration Engineer to support our Sullivan Park research and development organization in Corning, NY. This role is based onsite and includes travel averaging 15–25%, depending on project phase and technology programs, with occasional higher travel periods. Relocation assistance is available for this position.

This position supports Corning’s technology community by helping teams identify and address environmental, health, and safety considerations as new research, development, engineering, and early manufacturing scale-up activities take shape. Rather than focusing only on established operations, this role works closely with scientists, engineers, equipment owners, and facility teams to guide safe and environmentally responsible project development from early concept through implementation. It could be a strong fit for someone with a technical EHS background, or for an engineer or technical professional from a manufacturing, pilot, development, or R&D environment who has worked closely with process safety, risk assessment, equipment safety, chemical risk, or related EHS considerations as part of developing or scaling technology. The key to success in this role is being able to understand technical work, communicate practical requirements clearly, and help teams move innovation forward while managing risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with scientists, engineers, and project teams to identify and address EHS considerations for new materials, processes, equipment, and early manufacturing scale-up activities
  • Participate as a regular member of the Science & Technology Division’s EHS Management of Change review board, including process hazard review activities
  • Attend project meetings, design reviews, and risk assessments to provide technical EHS input and support early adoption of safer, more environmentally responsible designs
  • Research proposed activities, including processes, chemistry, machine tools, regulations, and industry standards, to assess EHS implications and support sound project decisions
  • Lead, facilitate, or participate in process hazard analysis activities to identify hazards, improvement opportunities, and risk-reduction actions throughout the project lifecycle
  • Work with project teams, business partners, and customers to recommend safeguards, administrative practices, and risk-reduction options that balance EHS needs with schedule and budget considerations
  • Partner with industrial hygienists and environmental engineers to evaluate new chemicals and communicate potential future regulatory implications tied to scale-up and business impact
  • Lead or support incident investigations, identify root causes, communicate findings, and help drive corrective and broader system improvements
  • Deliver EHS training and seminars and communicate regulatory and technical requirements in a practical way that enables action
  • Support implementation of Process Safety Management program requirements for covered processes and transfer project safety and environmental knowledge to impacted teams

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Physical Sciences, or another related technical field
  • 10+ years of manufacturing or engineering experience
  • Experience participating in or leading risk assessments, hazard reviews, process hazard analysis, or similar technical EHS review activities
  • Ability to research technical processes, chemistry, equipment, regulations, and industry standards to assess EHS risk and support project decisions
  • Experience leading or participating in incident investigations, identifying root cause, and supporting corrective actions
  • Experience communicating technical EHS requirements clearly to technical and mixed audiences, including presentations, training, or other action-oriented communication
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with engineers, scientists, facility personnel, and project teams across a range of functions and levels
  • Ability to travel locally and occasionally overnight or internationally

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification
  • Experience supporting research, development, engineering, pilot, or early manufacturing scale-up environments
  • Working knowledge of machine safety, process safety, laboratory safety, industrial heating equipment safety, and electrical safety standards and regulations
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as PSM, RMP, TSCA, or REACH
  • Experience developing or implementing AI-enabled tools to improve repetitive EHS tasks
