Role Purpose

Corning is seeking an Electrical Controls Technician – R&D Facilities to support electrical, controls, and automation systems at our Sullivan Park location in Painted Post, NY. This is a hands-on, onsite role focused on the installation, troubleshooting, commissioning, maintenance, and support of control systems serving research labs, building infrastructure, and specialized equipment.

 

This role offers the opportunity to work in a unique R&D environment where systems are often customized to support experimental processes and specialized research needs. You will gain broad exposure to building automation systems, control panels, instrumentation, PLC-controlled equipment, and process support, while partnering closely with engineers and senior technicians. Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and maintain electrical and control systems that support facility operations and R&D equipment
  • Monitor and support building automation systems, including basic diagnostics and maintenance activities
  • Build, wire, and assemble control panels, including component installation and layout support
  • Perform point-to-point wiring and follow standards for labeling, routing, and termination
  • Support startup and troubleshooting of PLC-controlled equipment, including I/O validation
  • Assist with calibration and troubleshooting of instrumentation signals, including 4–20 mA, 0–10 VDC, thermocouples, and RTDs
  • Perform system checkout, point-to-point verification, and support point-to-graphic validation
  • Support BAS controller wiring, addressing, commissioning, and checkout
  • Assist with heating systems and PID control loop support
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and assist with drawing redlines and updates
  • Work closely with engineers and senior technicians to complete project work and improve system reliability

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree or above OR technical training in Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics
  • Troubleshooting experience with electrical or control systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with control panel wiring, assembly, or installation
  • Experience with instrumentation and industrial control signals
  • Exposure to PLCs, building automation systems, or related control systems
  • Exposure to heating systems, temperature controls, or PID loops

The range for this position is $71,650.00 - $98,520.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
