Scope of Position:

Support the Sullivan Park Environmental, Health & Safety & Materials Management team day to day tasks for all process and laboratory operations onsite, focusing on air emissions compliance (federal and state). Provide technical leadership and supervision for environmental compliance across a complex R&D campus. Serve as the primary air quality compliance expert while overseeing multimedia programs including waste, water, chemical management, spill prevention, and the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS). Support laboratory, pilot-scale, and process operations across multiple business units.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

The Environmental Compliance Manager – Air & Multimedia will provide leadership, technical support, program auditing, and strategy development for site environmental programs and initiatives for all media (Air-focused) as required.  These may include:

 

Leadership & Oversight

- Supervise and mentor environmental compliance staff and consultants.

- Direct daily compliance support for R&D labs, pilot facilities, and process operations.

- Ensure timely, accurate regulatory deliverables.

 

Air Quality Compliance (Primary Focus)

- Act as site expert for Clean Air Act and NYS 6 NYCRR air regulations.

- Lead air permitting strategies, modifications, renewals, and compliance demonstrations.

- Ensure adherence to emissions limits, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting.

- Oversee or review air dispersion modeling (AERMOD, SCREEN3/AERSCREEN, CALPUFF).

 

Multimedia Environmental Programs

- Support hazardous/nonhazardous waste (RCRA), wastewater, stormwater, TSCA, SPCC, Chemical Bulk Storage, and Right-to-Know programs.

- Integrate environmental requirements into procedures and project planning.

 

Corporate Standards & EMS

- Implement corporate environmental policies.

- Maintain and improve the ISO 14001-certified EMS.

- Support audits and corrective actions.

 

Compliance Assurance & Regulatory Engagement

- Conduct assessments and inspections.

- Review analyses, emissions calculations, and regulatory submittals.

- Lead preparation of state and federal reports.

- Serve as contact for regulatory inspections and enforcement.

 

Consultant & Budget Management

- Manage consultants for permitting, modeling, and compliance.

- Define scopes, review deliverables, and manage budgets.

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Partner with researchers, engineers, EHS, and leadership to embed compliance.

- Support equipment, chemical, and material selection.

- Communicate requirements clearly to stakeholders.

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

40 hours per week.

 

Required Skills, Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental/Chemical/Mechanical Engineering or Sciences, in a related field.
  • 10+ years of environmental compliance experience with strong air quality focus.
  • Experience leading multimedia programs and supporting R&D/lab/pilot environments.
  • Familiarity with air dispersion modeling.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience in manufacturing or technology transfer environments.
  • Experience in safety programs and systems.

The range for this position is $140,597.00 - $193,321.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
