Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • The individual will be responsible to lead the technical direction of cross-functional project teams, on early innovation stage projects, through concept generation / certification, technology development, detail design / build, and start-up in manufacturing. The applications will vary from using standard commercial equipment to developing new custom machines/mechanisms or combination of both.
  • Interface and work with the Research, Development and Manufacturing leadership involved in the innovation and manufacture of new products and machine systems for any of Corning’s Divisions including Science and Technology (R&D).
  • Work with other project team members on solving difficult mechanical engineering related problems, understanding project related issues, and general process engineering and process understanding.
  • Work as a team member/advisor during the development of new process equipment systems with system integrators and/or external sub-contractors.
  • Utilize internal lab facilities and equipment to develop proof of concept prototypes.
  • Focus will be on leading and influencing the technical direction for the concept, design and analysis of first generation /next generation process machine systems for robustness of design.


Travel Requirements:

  • Estimate travel at 10% - 30% but could be more depending upon specific project assignment.
  • Domestic and International.


Required Education and Years of Experience:

  • We require a minimum of B.S degree in Mechanical Engineering or related area. Other engineering majors will be considered.
  • 8+ years of experience in the following areas: - Process, Equipment, Product Development or Engineering - Project or Engineering Management - Project Level Supervisory Experience - Technology or Product Transfer (preferred)


Required Skills:

  • Experience in successful development and delivery of new products or fully integrated, first/next generation process machine systems through early stages of innovation and into manufacturing.
  • Strong technical knowledge in the areas of mechanical and process engineering and product design.
  • Technical understanding in the areas of automation, precision engineering skills, metrology, materials, finishing, controls, measurements and numerical analysis / modeling.
  • Demonstrated project leadership experience with ability to achieve results through technical leadership and influence of highly matrixed project teams, champion new ideas, lead by example and provide constructive feedback to co-workers
  • Ability to effectively manage highly ambiguous situations and effectively demonstrate leadership in assigned early stage projects that will enable unique solutions to the technical challenges.
  • Strong technical leadership and experience with projects requiring development of fundamental process understanding and requirements.


Desired Skills:

  • Experience working with the Scientific and Technology communities.
  • Knowledge of Corning’s manufacturing processes, especially in glass and ceramics.
  • Demonstrated experience with Corning Innovation process.
  • Demonstrated experience with moving a program or project from early stage into pilot manufacturing
  • Problem solving and decision making.
