Role Purpose

This position resides within the Electrical & Controls Engineering Department of the Workplace Services Division (WPS). The role is dedicated to ensuring reliable electrical distribution for research, development, and engineering programs that support innovation processes. The Electrical Engineer will play a key role in troubleshooting, process improvement, new equipment installation, and documentation of electrical infrastructure and process equipment.

Key Responsibilities

· Develop a thorough understanding of electrical infrastructure and equipment functions within the area of responsibility.

· Assist in troubleshooting electrical infrastructure, systems, and processes to ensure uninterrupted customer supply.

· Create and manage project plans and timelines to achieve goals without compromising safety, intellectual property, or quality standards.

· Collaborate with Quality and Engineering teams to document repairs and changes made to equipment and electrical infrastructure.

· Identify and recommend critical spare parts to prevent extended downtime.

· Lead and participate in required Potential Problem Analysis (PPA) and electrical shutdowns.

· Diagnose issues to the component level and assist with troubleshooting as necessary.

· Partner effectively with union trades, subcontractors, and colleagues across all levels of the organization.

· Exhibit self-motivation and the ability to complete tasks independently while managing multiple priorities.

· Exposure to medium voltage electrical infrastructure systems.

· Compliance with plant safety requirements, OSHA, NFPA and NEC guidelines as applicable.

· Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, safety-toed shoes, hard hats, fire-retardant clothing, hearing protection, and clean room attire in designated areas.

Experiences/Education - Required

· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET), with a focus on electrical power and power distribution.

· Strong understanding of regulations relevant to the field (NEC, NFPA, etc.) and ability to ensure compliance

· Expertise in incorporating safety and risk analysis into equipment designs.

· Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office applications.

· Prior co-op or internship experience involving electrical infrastructure equipment and troubleshooting.

· Competency in using electrical test meters, PCs, and schematics for troubleshooting electrical equipment or infrastructure.

· Demonstrates a proactive approach and bias for action in situations of uncertainty, with attention to resolving issues effectively.

· Ability to translate engineering solutions into requirements and further into process or equipment designs that meet performance criteria.

· Evaluates alternatives and recommends optimal solutions within site specifications.

· Completes assignments thoroughly and efficiently.

· Works effectively in a team environment while being a self-starter and results-oriented individual.

· Communicates clearly and effectively across various settings to present necessary information to project, department, and site leaders.

 

Hours of work:

· Standard work hours are M-F 7:30-4:00, however, on-call and weekend work expected for project work and electrical shutdowns when necessary.

The range for this position is $83,682.00 - $115,064.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
