Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of Position: Develop and manage the sector’s view on market demand for optical fiber, a critical input for OFC’s fiber capacity planning. Manage process to build consensus across the organization by working closely with PLM, fiber commercial operations (sales), and COC’s business intelligence function. The fiber market lead will closely coordinate and collaborate with the COC cable market lead. To ensure organizational alignment, the fiber market lead will report to both OFC’s market intelligence manager (solid line) and COC’s market intelligence manager (solid line). The fiber market lead is responsible for communicating findings to OFC and COC leadership during Quarterly Market Reviews (QMRs) as well as corporate/sector planning events such as blackbook (1YR) and greenbook (5YR) market forecasts.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and deliver a fiber market volume and revenue forecast by region, by product to support critical division, sector, and corporate activites. Examples include OFC CDP reporting, QMRs, blackbook, greenbook, earnings call prep, and investor conferences. 
  • Manage the Quarterly Market Review process and present results to the Optical Communciations LT, resulting in one view for the sector. 
  • Track and report fiber and cable import/export activities leveraging available databases (PIERs, GTIS, trade association data, etc…) to provide further analysis on fiber/cable demand with a focus on China exports.
  • Work closely with the Cable Market Lead to ensure alignment between fiber and cable market understanding.
  • Meet and work with fiber commercial operations directors and fiber PLMs regularly to capture specific regional market drivers and to ensure alignment on volume/revenue assumptions.
  • Meet and work with fiber pricing team to develop market pricing by product, by region to facilitate the development of a fiber market revenue forecast.
  • Track and report OFC CDP position on fiber by product, by region quarterly (volume and revenue) to OFC leadership as well as key COC stakeholders (BI, finance, strategy).
  • Track and report various industry reports (i.e. NA Burrough’s survey, Europacable, KNIP, CRU, etc…) to provide additional market insight and adjust market forecasts.
  • Ownership of fiber market forecasting process (C10146 Market Analysis and Long Range Forecast) to include internal and external audits and maintaining appropriate documentation ensuring compliance to TL 9000 requirements.
  • Identify and lead projects to improve OFC/COC’s ability to forecast optical fiber demand, including collaboration with COC’s business intelligence analytics team. 

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in finance, engineering, business or data analytics. 
  • Training in business analytics is a plus. 

 

Experience and Skills:

  • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations from data
  • Deep statistical analytics skills and affinity for process rigor
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills
  • Excel and Powerpoint power user
  • Entrepreneurial and resourceful, undeterred
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Ability to create alignment and consensus across functions
  • Ability to develop and navigate relationships at all levels of organization
  • Strong work ethic, responsive, attention to detail
  • 2+ years experience in strategy, PLM, or business development a plus
  • Experience in fiber business a plus (but not required)

 

Travel Requirements (Post COVID):

  • 1-2 international trips per year
  • 1-2 trips per quarter to Charlotte NC (or Corning NY) for coordination with COC BI (OFC SP&A team)

 

Location: The primary and preferred location of this role is Corning, NY. Open to candidates based in Charlotte, NC as well.
