Position Description:

The position of Financial Analyst, Advanced Analytics is an exciting opportunity to be a part of Corning's Data Science & Intelligence team, which delivers analysis and insight to support strategic decisions and financial operations in a large and diverse Fortune 500 company. This role is part of the Finance Function and will be at the forefront of transforming decision science within corporate finance and across the company. The team leverages core competencies in: statistics, data science, and corporate finance. Projects will be approached as a team, with the Financial Analyst expected to have the ability to operate independently, develop and apply analytical solutions to key business problems, and communicate analysis insights effectively.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Manager of Advanced Analytics to assess and frame business problems
  • Performing business problem modeling to support departmental activities using established tools and practices, including stochastic modeling, regression analysis, time-series analysis and data mining
  • Use data and advanced analytics methods to discover new insights to business problems
  • Compiling data and sharing relevant and recent developments with analytical tools and best practices
  • Evaluating and recommending improvements to current models, metrics, and analytic processes improve operational efficiency
  • Define and document configuration requirements and data modeling requirements

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative discipline (Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Finance)
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Course work and/or interest in Finance and Economics
  • Course work and/or experience in applied statistics, machine learning, or data science a plus

Required Experience:

  • Must possess a quantitative approach to analyzing data and solving problems
  • Must be inquisitive and open to challenging traditional processes and thinking
  • Self-driven for continual learning and ongoing training/development
  • Able to present technical analysis to senior level stakeholders
  • Ability to both work independently and as part of cross functional teams

Technical Competencies Preferred:

  • Strong understanding of corporate finance concepts and working knowledge of business financial statements - Income Statement, Cash Flow, Balance Sheet
  • Competency with Python (preferred) or R to solve data analysis problems
  • Experience with SQL a plus
  • Experience with business intelligence tools such as PowerBI, Tableau or other dashboard software a plus
  • Experience with software development tools such as git, docker a plus
  • Experience with AWS ecosystem and Databricks analytics platform a plus
