Job Description:

This role is part of a strategic finance group, Enterprise Risk & Intelligence, which delivers analysis and insight to support strategic decisions and financial operations. The group leverages core competencies in: statistics, data science, and corporate finance. Projects will be approached as a team, with the Quantitative Financial Analyst expected to both complete independent analyses and engage collaboratively with the broader team.

Using advanced modeling techniques, the Quantitative Finance Analyst will provide objective and insightful analysis to all levels of the organization including Senior Management.  The individual must possess competency in the application of quantitative methods to solve complex business problems. Commonly used tools include time series models, stochastic modeling, regression analysis, machine learning and text-mining. The candidate should have interest in applying these quantitative methods to advance Corning’s decision-making capability within the Finance function.

Scope of Position:

The position of Quantitative Financial Analyst is an exciting opportunity to be a part of Corning's advanced analytic effort and to lead the adoption of analytic methods within our function. You will be successful in this position if you possess a quantitative background and experience in finance and economics. You should be proficient in applying quantitative techniques, such as Monte Carlo simulation, time-series modeling, or machine learning to business problems.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Supporting ERI Data Science Manager to identify, assess and frame business problems
  • Performing business problem modeling and quantitative analytics to support departmental activities using established tools and practices, including stochastic modeling, regression analysis, time-series analysis and data mining.
  • Compiling data and sharing relevant and recent developments with analytical tools, best practices, and capital markets
  • Evaluating and recommending improvements to current models, metrics, and analytic processes improve operational efficiency
  • You will help define and document configuration requirements and data modeling requirements

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative discipline (Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Finance)
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Course work and/or interest in Finance and Economics
  • Course work and/or experience in applied statistics, machine learning, or data science

Required Experience:

  • Must possess a quantitative approach to analyzing data and solving problems
  • Must be inquisitive and open to challenging traditional processes and thinking
  • <span style="font-family:"Segoe UI",sans-serif">Self-driven for continual learning and ongoing training/development
  • Able to present technical analysis to senior level stakeholders
  • Ability to both work independently and as part of cross functional teams

Technical Competencies Preferred:

  • Strong competency with Python (preferred) or R to solve data analysis problems
  • Experience with SQL, Apache Spark a plus
  • Familiarity with software development best practices
  • Experience with PowerBI, Tableau or other dashboard software
  • Experience with D3 or interactive visualization packages in Python or R a plus
  • Experience with MLFlow a plus
