Position Overview:

The Senior Manager Tax Operations for income tax compliance oversees all aspects of corporate income taxes and is viewed as the leader in managing the complex lifecycle of federal income tax compliance including the review of the consolidated federal income tax returns (including the reporting of US international tax compliance) to assure compliance with all federal tax laws and regulations and oversee the state tax return process.  In addition, the Senior Manager will have responsibility for leading process improvement initiatives and on-going tax technical enhancements.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Manage complete lifecycle of federal income tax compliance, including review of subsidiary pro-forma and consolidated federal income tax returns, calculation of estimated tax payments, and review and reconciliation of ASC740 income tax accrual to tax return adjustments. 
  • Oversee and manage the components of the US federal income tax return, including participation in planning for and developing overall return calendar and coordination of timing and inputs with other tax team members.  This involves coordinating and supervision of all employees and/or service providers charged with analyzing data to determine the Company’s federal income tax liabilities. 
  • Oversee the preparation and review of multiple subsidiaries’ tax return audit-ready workpapers and returns which will be included in the consolidated federal income tax return. 
  • Oversee the preparation of estimated federal income tax payment calculations and assist with cash flow forecasting. 
  • Assist in preparation of Company’s tax provision pursuant to ASC 740 with respect to the Federal tax provision and cash forecasting processes.
  • Oversee the day-to-day guidance provided to Company personnel regarding federal income tax matters as well as the training and mentoring of tax operations team members
  • Liaise closely with other Senior Managers in the Tax Operations group in assessing priority of deliverables and the coordination of the shared resources needed to meet those deliverables
  • Provide assistance to, and participation in, tax planning initiatives including the research and analysis of tax planning ideas to determine impacts for U.S. income tax reporting and coordinating with the Senior Manager Tax Accounting on the federal elements related to the worldwide tax provision 
  • Manage the analysis and documentation of tax implications of emerging business issues, technical tax positions taken, and integration of such positions into the compliance/reporting process 
  • Assist with the integration of acquired companies into the tax return accounting methods utilized by Corning and inclusion in the consolidated federal income tax return and state income tax returns.
  • Assist the Tax Controversy team with domestic tax controversy matters, including strategy and preparation/gathering of audit documents. 
  • Perform ad hoc analysis of tax issues to support management inquires, as requested. 
  • Drive process improvements by identifying and implementing opportunities for efficiency, effectiveness, and automation in income tax compliance processes. 

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, economics, or Business Administration
  • Prefer one to two years of management experience with direct/indirect supervisory experience over multiple personnel.
  • Strong tax technology skills.  Proficient with BPC, SAP S4 Hana Provision software skills a bonus (i.e., OneSource, Corptax)

Required Skills:

  • Must have experience in accounting for income taxes (domestic provision) with some experience consolidating worldwide provision preferred.
  • Experience with reviewing year-end income tax compliance forms and assisting with identifying and explaining the RTP and true-up to payable and deferred balances.
  • Experience estimating significant perms and temp adjustments, identifying discrete adjustments, supporting deferred balances and maintaining provision work papers.

Desired Skills:

  • Some experience calculating / reviewing FDII and BEAT calculations.
  • Strong tax technical skills including research and writing memos supporting positions taken.
  • Strong leadership qualities and an interest in driving change.
  • Experience reviewing consolidated income tax returns.
  • Experience preparing / reviewing tax provisions inside OneSource
