Technology transfers will vary in scope, including shipping crate design, sheet glass handling and unload, glass singulation, parts handling washing, and lamination. Customer/partner manual sample making at R&D level. Customer/partner trials with Corning thin glass on existing pilot or manufacturing line. Manufacturing startups and expansions where thin glass is newly involved. Engineering design of manufacturing equipment based on commercially available technology/equipment, layout and capital estimates, from early estimates to detailed engineering.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Lead/support technology transfers and handle them as projects.
  • Define scope, establish project plan, milestones, timeline, and resource required.
  • Own and execute the plan, or part of the plan. Anticipate potential challenges and find solutions.

  • Assure proper resource levels coordinating with internal groups as needed.
  • Project delivery will include:
    • Education of factory floor operator/technician/engineers on thin glass handling.
    • Gathering data on equipment capabilities and costs from vendors and suppliers. Engage in equipment testing if required.
    • Protecting Corning intellectual property: document know-how transfer carefully and systematically, within defined project guidelines; control flow of information.
    • Designing experiments, analyzing data, and documenting outcomes of Sample making.
  • Discuss objectives and priorities with program development lead and manufacturing lead.
  • Work collaboratively with Corning supply chain, Corning PLM and the team. Check-in generally bi-weekly, with higher frequency during trials or when in case of challenges to be resolved.
  • Actively comply with safety procedures and be an advocate for an interdependent safety culture.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team.
  • Interface with internal subject matter experts to accelerate delivery by transferring good practice and know-how from other divisions, or to solve challenges.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience in several technical areas overlapping position need.
  • Glass processing including crate handling and sheet glass unload, score-break and edge, washing, parts handling and lamination.
  • Equipment specifications, procurement, acceptance testing and start-up.
  • Modification of existing manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience with planning engineering trials on manufacturing lines.
  • Equipment capital and installation estimates.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment involving glass sheet handling and demonstrated capability to interface with customers.

Required Skills:

  • Project leadership skills, structured problem-solving and decision-making, rigorous and well-organized. Strong knowledge of ASC 740 and related pronouncements preferred.
  • Resourceful to solve challenges at customer/partners within time constraints.
  • Capable to ask and reach out for help as needed and interface with experts from various disciplines.
  • Capable to manage estimates at different precision levels.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • Collaborative and inclusive style.

Desired Skills:
