Purpose of the Position:

Apply knowledge of material properties, interactions, and scientific principles to mitigate defects in new glass and glass ceramic properties. DOE design, execution, and statistical analysis. Utilize engineering hypothesis testing methodology (MEE or similar) and kT root cause analysis strategies to understand perceived and actual risks to product scale to manufacturing specifically related to material interactions. Supporting and/or leading continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions and cost reduction projects. Working with other team members from Research to Development to Manufacturing to solve difficult technical challenges and for new product development.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Design and lead execution of experimentation for new ceramic and glass product development.
  • Build fundamental understanding for new product property development.
  • Compile and prepare professional data reports for communication to team and leadership.
  • Work with Scientists, Engineers and Technicians to resolve/develop products and processes.
  • Data and statistical analysis to understand process capability.
  • Maintain safe work environment for self and others with operations and equipment and comply with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Work independently as well as within a team.
  • Troubleshoot material and process to identify root causes, identify and implement corrective actions.
  • Engage with multidisciplinary team to build network and enable project buy-in.

Education & Experience: BS or MS degree in Materials Science and Engineering or Glass/Ceramics Engineering. Experience in process engineering and/or product development.

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong background in characterization, glass metrology and optical properties.
  • Knowledge of glass and glass ceramic properties and good understanding of material property interactions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills communicating to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong innovative problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Highly motivated for fast paced development environment.
  • DOE design knowledge.
  • Strong technical skills and the ability to think outside the traditional boundaries to enable innovation.
  • Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries.
  • Results and organizational detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork in accomplishing common goals.
  • Data analysis and interpretation skills (Excel, Minitab, JMP, PowerPoint, Word).

Work Schedule: M-F, business hours; Flexible hours may be required to support off-hours meeting/experimentation.

 

Travel Requirements: <10% Travel to support business.
