Scope of Position: Develop, assemble, test and deploy measurement systems in support of manufacturing process control and inspection of Corning products. Work as part of a team to manage the transfer of technology from Research to development to manufacturing.

 

Required Education:

  • Working toward MS or PhD degree in Physics, Optics, Optical Engineering, ME or ECE Hands on experience with optical metrology or imaging systems is desired

 

Required Experience/Skills:

  • Knowledge of geometric optics and optical metrology
  • Experience programming in .NET, Python or C language
  • Knowledge of statistics
  • Exposure to hands-on working with instrumentation
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Data retrieval, plotting and analysis

 

Desired Experience/Skills: 

  • Industry experience working with measurement system development
  • Machine Vision system development (optics, lighting, cameras, image acquisition, image analysis)
  • Knowledge of image processing algorithms (blob analysis, edge finding, morphology, feature extraction, classification, metrology)
  • Motion Control – ability to integrate motion on imaging platforms
  • Computing – Experience with high performance computing systems

Day to Day Responsibilities: 

  • Work with a mentor to build and deliver metrology systems to internal customers
  • Meet with internal customers to verify requirements
  • Demonstrate proof-of-concept solutions in optical metrology lab
  • Build measurement system; leveraging external suppliers as required
  • Develop custom software using C# to operate measurement system
  • Install measurement system at customer manufacturing site
  • Design experiments and analyze data to identify and implement improvements to measurement systems or production processes. 
  • Create/update documentation for release to production including Machine Specifications; operating procedures and drawing packages.

 

Travel Requirements:  <10% anticipated

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hrs./week
