Role Purpose:
Corning is working on a portfolio of new growth innovations covering a wide range of applications and market spaces. The Corning Emerging Innovations development organization is looking for a development engineer or scientist to focus on the development of the product and process steps in the area of new materials for energy storage/batteries.
Scope of Role:
- Participate in new product and process development as part of a fast-paced Corning Emerging Innovations organization.
- Based on project objectives and overall strategy, drive learning efficiently and systematically by designing, planning and executing experiments on lab and pilot-scale equipment.
- Drive critical understanding based on first principles, inference and observations.
- Support design of prototype equipment and pilot equipment, establish baseline processes and transfer process knowledge to engineering team.
- Manage day to day activities with hands-on experimentation and documentation/sharing of results.
- Define the appropriate process and response data to collect, then analyze and interpret that data to generate actionable insights.
- Coordinate with other process areas to build a shared understanding of the overall process window and deliver samples for internal and external use.
Experiences/Education - Required:
- Master's or PhD degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, ceramic engineering, material science engineering or related discipline
- 3+ years of experience with green tape, tape casting and advanced formulation experience
Experiences/Education - Desired:
- Advanced ceramics or similar materials processing
- Battery testing, design and fundamental understanding
- Surface science and characterization
- Deep process integration and/or material understanding in battery-related materials
- Delivery of results in a high-tech, fast paced and dynamic environment
- Manufacturing and/or pilot manufacturing experience of advanced product
- Managing technicians; defining day to day work and objectives

The range for this position is $93,991.00 - $129,238.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
