The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes. IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.
Scope of the Position: The AI/ML intern will support the development of machine learning models and AI solutions that address real-world business challenges. They will collaborate with data scientists and engineers to preprocess data, experiment with algorithms, and fine-tune models to improve performance and scalability. Through hands-on projects, the intern will gain practical experience in applying AI/ML techniques while contributing innovative ideas to drive the team's success.

Key Responsibilities
The AI/ML intern will focus on developing applied generative AI solutions for businesses, leveraging AI techniques to address real-world challenges. Their tasks will include preprocessing and exploring raw datasets to prepare them for machine learning workflows, ensuring data quality through cleaning, transformation, and feature engineering. They will also contribute to the automation of processes through CI/CD pipelines, experiment with various algorithms, train models, and evaluate performance. Additionally, the intern will support the development of intuitive user interfaces that enhance accessibility and usability of AI solutions, and will document processes and findings through visualizations and reports to effectively communicate insights to stakeholders and team members.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in software engineering, computer science, machine learning or similar
- GPA of 3.0 or above
- Relevant experience a plus
Required Skills
- The AI/ML intern role requires a strong foundation in machine learning, data science, and programming, with proficiency in languages such as Python
- A solid understanding of key machine learning concepts, including supervised and unsupervised learning, model evaluation metrics, and algorithm optimization, is essential
- Experience with data preprocessing techniques, such as cleaning, transformation, and feature engineering, as well as familiarity with libraries like NumPy, Pandas, and Scikit-learn, is highly valued. Knowledge of generative AI models and frameworks, such as GPT, Claude or similar
- Familiarity with automation through CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins, Docker, or Kubernetes, and an understanding of version control systems like Git for streamlining workflows
- Additionally, skills in developing user interfaces using frameworks like React, Angular, or Flask will be beneficial to ensure the accessibility and usability of AI solutions
- Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills, and a collaborative mindset are also necessary to contribute effectively to cross-functional teams and deliver impactful results

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
