Scope of Position:

This position is in the Sullivan Park Operations Directorate, within the Laboratory Services Management & Engineering (LSME) Department. The primary function of the department is to provide support for R&D activities by providing professional services in project management, infrastructure engineering, and laboratory space management. This position is responsible for support of critical facility infrastructure systems, under the supervision of a LSME engineer, to include oversight and installation, receivership of new systems, and operational monitoring and management. This is a technical individual contributor position with a focus on safe operation, reliability, and sustainability of laboratory infrastructure support equipment and processes. A key function of this job is auditing and documenting equipment conditions, customer interfacing, learning and understanding of customer’s processes and needs, consulting with multiple customers, maintaining good customer relationships, and providing the customer with the most effective support.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Participate and support the department’s safety initiatives
  • Support the safe, reliable operation and maintenance of critical infrastructure systems
  • Evaluate infrastructure system maintenance recordkeeping, documentation, and personnel training
  • Work with process technicians, trades, engineers, and customers to assess equipment condition
  • Document infrastructure system audit findings, perform data analysis, and report the results of system inspections

 

Travel Requirements: <5%, Conferences or internal customer request as approved by manager

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Typical 7am-4pm, or as determined appropriate by manager
  • Some scheduling flexibility available
  • Duration: Summer 2021, 8-12 weeks

 

Required Education and Area of Experience:

  • Pursuing BS Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or relevant).
  • 1-2 years of study in an engineering curriculum

 

Required Skills

  • Ability to obtain and analyze data to confirm proper system operation and assist in system level troubleshooting
  • Effective written, verbal and presentation communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office i.e. Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint
  • Outstanding customer service and teamwork skills

 

Desired Skills

  • Ability to read system drawings (schematics) and provide design oversight
  • HVAC system understanding
  • NYS Building Code Awareness
  • AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, NAVIS Works
  • Knowledge of facility/infrastructure equipment operation (e.g. air handlers, exhaust fans, pumps, etc.)
