Role Purpose

The position is an internship in the Inorganic Materials R&D group.  The research projects that the intern will be involved to include optical interaction with materials; utilizing specific wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum to modify the materials structures or using material structures to modify wavelengths.

Key Responsibilities

The day to day responsibilities include lab experimentation including melting and characterizing new glass materials, study of optical interaction, and data collection/analysis.  The experimental results and data analysis will be documented in a report summarizing the work at the end of the internship.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Candidate should be pursuing a bachelors in Physics. 
  • Experience in laboratory research or as a teaching assistant is highly desired.
  • Mathematical and data analysis, spectroscopy
  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May 27-July 31, 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
  • Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.
  • Be willing to work in Corning, New York

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience working with glass
  • Candidate should possess excellent written and oral communication skills

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
