Scope of Position:

  • In this role as a Software Development Engineer/Scientist Intern you will have the responsibility to develop, participate on development teams designing, developing, testing and deploying solutions for internal systems. You would participate on project teams using emerging technologies to deploy state of the art software solutions across all Corning businesses. You would also participate in internal and external working groups to advance the use of emerging software technologies within Corning.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Work with team to develop system requirements and establish design constraints.
  • Build software solutions for internal customer projects.
  • Participate in brainstorming and other ideation activities related to software development.
  • Contribute to Software and Software Project management best practices (from coding to project management, unit test, archive management, etc…).
  • Communicate development, testing results and project progress to team members and leadership.
  • Integrate new systems and technologies into Development and Manufacturing systems.
  • Transfer new technologies to equipment and process receivers, provide remote system support, and develop system documentation.
  • Work with other specialists and IT professionals to deliver integrated system solutions

Travel Requirements:  

  • We will need flexibility as there is some domestic and international travel based on project: 0-40%.

Required Education and Years of Experience:

  • You should be working towards MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or relevant field.

Required Skills:

  • Deep knowledge and expertise in software engineering
  • Strong software project discipline skills
  • Strong technical expertise in Windows and Linux software development environments and tools.
  • Ability to manage, prioritize, and execute work tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively to a diverse technical and non-technical audience, including non-native English speakers
  • Ability to work effectively in a small team: be cooperative, flexible, and respectful, communicate constructively, show commitment, and work toward a common goal

Desired Skills:  

  • Edge and Cloud, including Hadoop ecosystem development experience
  • Experience with Manufacturing Engineering Excellence, Process Excellence, Reliability testing, and Software Testing other approaches for framing challenging problems
  • Neural Networks and Other Emerging Cognitive Computational Tools- Design, Develop and Apply
  • Imaging Experience – specifically in the image data management area
  • Computing – Familiarity with high performance computing platforms
  • Emerging disparate Data Models and Data Storage Environments
  • Data Streaming for Real-time data analytics, visualization, and process control methods
  • Excellent presentation skills
