Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • LiDAR Systems Engineer for a cross functional team that is responsible to deliver a high performance, robust, cost effective glass cover portfolio of products to capture growth opportunities in the emerging automotive LiDAR market.
  • Lead Systems Engineering function focused on LiDAR systems including light generation, scanning and receiver technologies to guide early-stage research, development and engineering activities and subsequent transition into manufacturing focused on solving real-world challenges with deploying LiDARs on vehicles.
  • Develop testbeds and models to simulate the performance of new LiDAR subcomponents and their impact at the system level.
  • Skillfully work across multiple functional organizations.
  • Work with project team members to solve difficult materials, measurement and processes as they relate to LIDAR.
  • Actively manage the technical progress and risks in order to proactively mitigate critical barriers and deliver technology on time.
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment and participate on a highly matrixed project team
  • Build in-depth systems knowledge of LiDAR as it pertains to automotive systems, as well as the key attributes that Corning can impact through new product developments and enhancements.  

 

Education & Experience: BS, MS or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics. 5+ years managing complex projects.

 

Required Skills:

  • Experience and expertise in complex optical sensing systems including building models and test-beds.
  • Successful development and delivery of new highly technical products for optical systems.
  • Proven Technology Leadership experience.
  • Strong technical leadership skills that will enable unique solutions to the technical challenges.
  • Ability to effectively manage emerging customer and market requirements associated with early-stage projects.
  • Ability to interface with senior management and provide clear concise technology strategies, resources needs.
  • Ability to effectively leverage and manage both internal and external resources. Individual must be capable of executing project assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Strong level of technical curiosity that will enable unique solutions to the technical challenges
  • Experience in working with other project team members on solving difficult engineering related problems, understanding project related issues, and general process engineering and process understanding.  

 

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of product and application experience with automotive or airborne LiDAR.
  • Experience with product qualification and reliability testing processes.
  • Experience with sensor fusion, object recognition and classification systems.
  • Experience in managing direct reports and matrixed resources.

 

Work Schedule: (8 – 5, M – F), however, expected to work hours required to achieve project objectives will regularly exceed 40 hours per week.

 

Travel Requirements: Estimated travel at 10% depending upon specific project assignment. Increased travel may be required to support customer and supplier engagements.
