Scope of Position:

Corning is actively seeking an experienced communications professional to lead and manage major communications programs. This role will be critical in facilitating community relations, leading public engagement, and working with a team of specialists to develop and execute highly effective outreach efforts. They will need to demonstrate a shown ability to support external partners, media relations, special events, and cross-functional teams.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a dedicated resource for Corning’s corporate communications function, with a focus on crisis communications, sustainability and environmental issues, community relations, and project management
  • Evaluate and prepare for potential issues and crises that could impact the company’s image and reputation and develop appropriate communication strategies to mitigate them
  • Develop highly effective external messaging and public engagement strategies
  • Present communications strategies, plans, tactics, and rationale to leadership, as needed
  • Design targeted communications for various partners, which may include customers, employees, community members, government agencies, and media
  • Plan and schedule public meetings, develop public notices, and respond to public comments, as needed in conjunction with Corning’s legal resources
  • Draft responses to press requests in collaboration with media relations team
  • Develop communications collateral, including talking points, press statements, background information, Q&A, presentations, videos, digital content, other materials
  • Lead individual(s) in support of program objectives
  • Lead vendor(s) as needed to support program objectives, with specific achievements and budgetary goals
  • Coordinate with project team members and multiple consultant teams
  • Collaborate across function, company, business units, and regions, as needed


Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 25% travel will be required to project sites


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Monday – Friday, standard business hours.


Required Education and Years / Area of Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or related field
  • Master’s degree a plus
  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant experience, preferably in corporate communications, public relations, journalism, or media
  • Previous experience in project management and crisis communications


Required Skills:

  • Ability to lead, organize, and prioritize effectively
  • Extensive experience writing, developing, and executing integrated communications plans
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to think and communicate clearly, especially when addressing complicated and sensitive issues
  • Capacity to work well with pressure with ability to adapt to changing project requirements and tight deadlines
  • Strong writing and editing abilities, including proficiency in Associated Press style
  • Prior experience and consistent track record of delivery on major communications campaigns
  • Ability to assess priorities and handle many projects simultaneously
  • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated work ethic and a commitment to delivering results
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and particularly PowerPoint
  • Capable of working independently and interdependently
