The Global Supply Management (GSM) Function is recognized as a critical function for business success.  It delivers the training, tools and opportunities needed to create innovative solutions for the function & the corporation.  GSM has leading edge, effective processes to anticipate and exceed customer requirements.

 

Scope of Position:

The Manager, Strategic Sourcing Specialist, Packaging reports to the Global Strategic Sourcing Manager – Packaging, and is responsible for leading strategic procurement activities for packaging categories across NAFTA-based businesses (Life Science, Environment, Pharmaceutical, Solar, Optical Fiber, and Connectivity) and selected global categories (e.g., paper-based, and plastic packaging materials). 

 

Responsibilities:

- Develop and implement sub-category strategies for multiple divisions/sites to optimize cost. 

- Create and execute Strategic Sourcing plans based on forecasts of future demand, considering economic and currency trends and global sourcing conditions. 

- Provide market intelligence, pricing insights, and recommendations to divisional procurement and business leaders. 

- Lead the development and communication of global supply intelligence for assigned commodities (e.g., market analysis, cost modeling, sourcing activities). 

- Recommend and implement process changes to transition fragmented spend into a category management methodology. 

- Identify and lead cost reduction opportunities across multiple plants and businesses. 

- Negotiate with key suppliers and ensure adequate contract coverage within the portfolio in compliance with internal policies. 

- Manage supplier performance and oversee Supplier Relationship Management processes for assigned commodities. 

 

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, engineering, or a related field. 

- Minimum 7 years of experience in procurement, ideally within packaging materials or related commodities. 

- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across divisions and levels of the organization. 

- Proven experience in developing and executing commodity strategies and aligning them with business goals. 

 

Desired Qualifications:

- Industry knowledge, particularly in sourcing packaging materials such as plastics, paper/cardboard, wood, and metal. 

- Technical/engineering background or experience, preferably in packaging material engineering. 

- Experience negotiating and contracting in volatile markets to ensure competitive pricing models. 

- Familiarity with glass, ceramic and/or cable manufacturing processes. 

- Strong project management skills, with a focus on driving cross-functional initiatives. 

 

Location & Travel:

This position will be based in Corning, NY (HQ) (HYBRID)

Up to 20% travel (Mainly domestic travel)

The range for this position is $96,534.00 - $132,734.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
