Scope of Position:

This role reports directly to the EVP and Chief Operating Officer. It facilitates proactive and effective communication between the office of the COO, leaders within all operating businesses across Corning, corporate leaders, shareholders, investors, employees, and the media. The role develops, leads, and maintains rigorous communication protocols, and supports key strategic initiatives in partnership with all Corning business operating units.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Communication Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies for the office of the COO. This includes crafting messages that support business initiatives, enhance brand reputation, and effectively communicate the COO’s vision.
  • Media Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries related to the Office of the COO. Build strong relationships with journalists and media outlets to facilitate positive coverage of the organization’s activities.
  • Speechwriting & Presentation Development: Write speeches, prepare talking points, and develop presentations for public appearances by the COO at conferences, meetings, government activities, or other events.
  • Internal Communications: Manage internal communications to ensure employees are informed about company updates directly from the office of the COO. Develop the full communication plan to include key messages and FAQs. This can also include newsletters, memos, town hall meetings, content preparation etc.
  • Crisis Management: Develop crisis communication plans and messaging to protect organizational reputation during challenging times.
  • Social Media Strategy: Oversee social media presence for the COO ensuring consistent messaging across platforms; engage audiences through thoughtful content creation reflecting leadership perspectives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate effective communication between executives and various stakeholders including investors, board members, CMG members, customers, government officials, community leaders, business leaders, and employees, ensuring transparency & trust-building efforts are maintained consistently over time.
  • Brand Messaging Consistency: Ensure all communications reflect core values and the mission statement accurately while maintaining consistency throughout different channels/platforms used by the office of the COO.
  • Executive Visibility Enhancement: Identify opportunities where visibility enhancement could be beneficial (e.g., speaking engagements/interviews) then coordinate logistics and develop messaging.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation: Regularly assess effectiveness of implemented strategies using metrics and data analysis inform adjustments and improvements needed.
  • Business Communications Alignment: Partner with business and corporate communication leaders to build content and align on key messages.

Required Education/Experience:

  • 10+ years of Experience in Business-Level Communications: Proven track record of developing and executing strategic communication plans.
  • Fortune 500 Experience: Demonstrated success in managing communications within a Fortune 500 company.
  • Executive Support: Extensive experience providing direct communication support to executives.
  • Bachelor's Degree: Communications, public relations, journalism, marketing.

Required Skills:

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop long-term communication plans that align with organizational goals and anticipate future challenges or opportunities.
  • Media Relations Expertise: Strong understanding of the media landscape; ability to build relationships with journalists and secure positive coverage for the organization.
  • Crisis Management Skills: Experience in handling high-pressure situations calmly while developing effective crisis communication strategies that protect the organization's reputation.
  • Public Speaking & Presentation Abilities: Confidence in delivering presentations or speaking on behalf of executives when necessary; also includes preparing them for public appearances by providing coaching/guidance beforehand.
  • Strategic Project Coordination and Execution: The ability to plan, organize, and oversee communication projects from inception to completion. This involves setting clear objectives, managing timelines and budgets, coordinating cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, and delivering high-quality outcomes on schedule. Effective project management also includes risk assessment and mitigation strategies to adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining focus on the overall strategic vision.

The range for this position is $145,360.00 - $199,870.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
