Scope of Position:

In this role, you will provide HVAC engineering support within the Workplace Services division of Corning, Inc at Sullivan Park, Corning Main Plant and Houghton Park, and the Big Flats Facility. We look for you to assume the primary role of “HVAC Engineer” for the Facility Engineering department and support various engineering projects within the WPS Organization. You will need to identify facility improvement opportunities, justify capital funding and lead implementation of those improvements.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Complete process documentation as required.
  • Provide HVAC, Building Management System controls, and DI water engineering support for maintenance and project support.
  • Troubleshoot facility equipment including air handling units, make-up air units, AC units, exhaust fans, return air fans, hot water boilers, chillers and associated piping distribution systems, facility sanitary and storm piping systems and DI water systems.
  • Responsible for overall system performance, reliability, troubleshooting, operating costs, preventative maintenance, system improvements, and operation of assigned systems.
  • Develop and initiate planned maintenance, reliability, or improvement plans through maintenance database/tracking systems and by directing internal and external resources.
  • Develop and implement assigned or self-proposed engineering projects, improvement projects, and energy saving projects.
  • Detailed engineering design, layout drawings, scope of work, and specifications relating to smaller scale HVAC and DI water projects.
  • Responsible for developing long term engineering solutions for mechanical systems. Lead Potential Problem Analysis to predict /prevent potential failures on mechanical systems.
  • Create, audit, revise process documentation for HVAC, DI water, energy forecasting.
  • Identify and develop procedures / training / troubleshooting guides for facility technicians, maintenance department and engineering as needed.
  • Provide occasional after-hours technical support for on call or weekend support.


Travel Requirements:

  • Minimal, travel limited to immediate surrounding area


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Standard 40 hours work week, plus occasional weekend project work and on-call coverage (1) week per (2) month period.


Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering


Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • Minimum of 2+ years HVAC experience required.
  • Prefer someone with demonstrated ability in a manufacturing setting, facilities department or similar industrial experience.


Required Skills:

  • HVAC equipment experience – must be skilled in HVAC system design and operation.
  • Perform engineering calculations of building heating/cooling loads, energy profiles, equipment selections, sizing of ductwork/piping distribution systems.
  • Working knowledge of facilities equipment and associated Building Control Management system operation.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience and excellent troubleshooting skills and ability.
  • Basic AutoCAD skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Office skills – Word, Excel, Power point


Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

  • Prior experience in installation, system design, or maintenance of building infrastructure equipment.
  • Process control and subject area knowledge and application experience, SPC XL.
  • Understanding of quality systems, i.e. Performance Excellence 6 Sigma, KT, Manufacturing Excellence, ISO.
  • Navisworks and Revit (BIM)
  • Experience writing process documentation such as SOP’s, machine specs, O&M’s.
  • Working knowledge with industrial codes, and standards, ASHRAE.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
