Scope:

  • Join Corning’s glass melting engineering community to have the opportunity to work on a variety of melt technologies, compositions, products, and locations worldwide. Projects range from design improvement, builds/rebuilds, performance troubleshooting and new design migration.  Applications are diverse, for example Pharmaceutical Tubing, Gorilla Glass, and R&D platforms.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Apply engineering fundamentals and leverage experiments, data analyses, material evaluation, modeling to support manufacturing performance improvement through design, material changes or setup.
  • Develop and verify design concepts that enable new compositions or platform capabilities to maintain Corning’s competitive position.
  • Technical and/or project leadership for melt design projects across Corning divisions.
  • Mentor the next generation of melting design engineers.

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong engineering fundamentals and technical curiosity to learn, engage, and drive solutions and advance technology.
  • Understanding of glass melting systems: batch, melting, delivery, and pollution abatement. 
  • Ability to build relationships and work across organizational boundaries, businesses and cultures.
  • Strong project skills for appropriate planning and execution
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

 

Education and Experience:

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, or Materials engineering
  • >5 years’ experience in glass melting industry process, design, project management

 

Travel:

  • Dependent on type of work and project but may range from 25 to 50%.
