Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group): Melter modeler who develops models and delivers modeling results to develop and improve various glass melting processes, generate design concepts, execute glass composition development, and transfer to Engineering / Manufacturing. Technical leader and expert in area of glass melter modeling, with experience in FORTRAN/DGN.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Develop and use melting models of various glass processes, including batch, fluid glass, bubbles, heat transfer

• Development of advancement in physics represented by the existing math models

• Use of models for setup development, glass quality and throughput improvement, equipment failure understanding and new technology design

• Use of math models to determine effectiveness of new or changed design elements (e.g. electrode placement, cooling plates, bubblers, etc).

• Analysis of new glass compositions performance and setup in existing equipment

• Analysis and communication of results

• Support melt model advancement using commercial code

• Version control of updated models

• Deliver documentation (reviews/RTR) and capture IP as needed.

 

Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration)

M.S. or higher Mechanical Engineering 10+ years experience in coding melter models for required functionality 5+ years experience in using DGN

 

Travel Requirements (please note if international): 15% average travel, Domestic Travel (Harrodsburg) and International travel (France, Asia)

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hours per week/flex time

 

Required Skills (These are skills that candidates MUST possess)

1. 10+ years experience in melter modeling, including FORTRAN coding

2. Deep knowledge of glass melting process and equipment, thermal analysis, high temperature heat transfer and mass flow.

3. Able to apply critical thinking and engineering principles to solve complex problems.

4. Familiarity with state of the art in melt modeling simulation

5. Ability to work in a highly matrixed and diverse organization across research, development, engineering and manufacturing.

 

Desired Skills (These are skills that would be nice for candidates to possess)

1. Ability to program and use DGN FORTRAN models

2. Construction of models and tools for Engineering use
