  • Join Corning’s glass melting engineering community to have the opportunity to work on a variety of melting technologies, compositions, products, and locations worldwide. Projects range from melting design improvement, glass tank builds/rebuilds, performance troubleshooting and new design migration.  Applications are diverse, for example Pharmaceutical Tubing, Gorilla Glass, Display Technologies and R&D platforms.



  • Design complex process equipment that enable new compositions or platform capabilities to maintain Corning’s competitive position.  This includes:
    • Engineering calculations and numerical modeling of structure, thermal and fluids
    • Evaluating the viability of design changes and participating in design reviews
    • Reporting out to supervisor or project leader on status, trends, test results and decisions
    • Detailing drawings and compliance with department drawing and file standards
    • Collaborating with international teams and working at operational sites worldwide
  • Work at manufacturing sites to install, startup, troubleshoot melting issues, participate in autopsies
    • Factory acceptance testing
    • Installation, site acceptance testing, and startup
    • Updating drawings and transfer to manufacturing receivers
    • Troubleshooting operational issues and repairs if needed
    • Participate in end of campaign autopsies to document tank condition and identify potential opportunities for improvement.


Required Skills:

  • Strong engineering fundamentals and technical curiosity to learn, engage, drive solutions and advance technology.
  • Basic understanding of glass melting systems: batch, melting, delivery, and pollution abatement.
  • We are seeking 0-5 years related experience in equipment design role Practical 3D CAD experience and proficiency, SolidWorks experience preferred
  • Familiarity with mechanical and thermal analysis (SolidWorks Simulation and COMSOL preferred)
  • Knowledge of standard machining processes
  • Good project management skills Effective leadership, organization, and planning skills, with ability to handle changing priorities
  • Excellent communications, interpersonal and influencing skills Track record of on time delivery within budget; ability to drive projects to successful conclusion using influencing tools
  • Ability to lead or work with international teams across multiple initiatives that span various lines of business, geographic borders, time zones, and cultures
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work in team environment and motivate others


Education and Experience:

  • Minimum BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline, advanced degrees preferred
  • Experience or passionate in glass melting industry process, design, project management desired



  • Dependent on type of work and project but may range from 25 to 50%.
