Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group): The position is a research scientist supporting various projects in the new materials and processes group. Project work will include materials research in areas including novel mechanically advantaged glasses and glass ceramics, surface science and tribology of ultra-hard coatings, and novel antimicrobial materials. The role within the group will be a research scientist with expertise in various glass science areas including surface science, mechanical properties measurements, and glass formulation.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities: The research scientist will be responsible for conducting experimental work and performing data analysis in a new materials and processes group. The scientist will collaborate across a variety of businesses and R,D,&E groups on projects. Experimental results will be shared through technical reports and presentations. The candidate will be required to work on multiple new materials projects and work to establish new processes needed to scale materials inventions.

 

Travel requirements (please note if international): Less than 10%.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Flexible work schedule with 8-5 as preferred hours.

 

Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration): Applicant should have PhD in materials science or chemical engineering.

 

Required Skills (These are skills that candidates must possess): The candidate should have research experience with amorphous oxide materials as part of his/her PhD program. A strong background in mechanical properties of materials and surface tribology is a must. Candidate should have a track record of peer-reviewed research articles in the area of oxide glass. Ideal candidate is comfortable combining modeling and simulation studies with experimental research.

 

Desired Skills (these are the skills that would be nice for candidates to possess): It is desired that the candidate is a team-oriented scientist with high EQ. Hands on lab skills are also highly desirable.

 

Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership): Candidate should possess excellent communication skills (oral and written) and ability to collaborate across technical and business groups.
