Scope of Position:

The position of Finance Manager, Advanced Analytics is an exciting opportunity to join Corning's Data Science & Intelligence team, which delivers analysis and insight to support high stakes strategic decisions and financial operations in a large and diverse Fortune 500 company.


This role is part of the Finance Function and will be at the forefront of transforming decision science within corporate finance and across the company. The team demonstrates core proficiencies in statistics, data science, and corporate finance. Projects will be approached as a team, with the Manager of Advanced Analytics expected to have the ability to operate independently, develop and execute analytical projects and make recommendations to internal customers, including senior management.


The Manager of Advanced Analytics will also manage a department of Financial Analysts and dotted-lined Resident Analysts. The Manager will be responsible for the application of data science solutions to business problems and leading the development of analytics talent within the Finance Function.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Advanced Analytics team, including executing long-term strategy, setting operational priorities, developing talent and recruiting for the team and broader analytics needs in the function
  • Work closely with the Manager of Data Science to deliver key data science capabilities to the Finance function
  • Improve business partnership throughout the Finance function through delivering insight to key business problems and decisions
  • Develop and grow an analytics and data driven culture
  • Use the department to deliver quantitative analytics support for the Finance function and Corning’s business segments
  • Provide analysis of internal and external data, including strategic and operating plans, to quantify risks and impact of various scenarios on division/corporate objectives
  • Work closely with other departments within finance to provide data analytics and develop new approaches to complex problems
  • Proactively identify and assess strategic financial issues facing Corning and execute measurable solutions in line with Corning’s strategic objectives.
  • Coach Finance personnel on advanced analytic techniques and their application to Finance and Corning’s businesses
  • Develop robust internal and external recruiting pipeline to develop analytic talent within the Finance function


Projects involve:

  • Support of strategic decision-making using quantitative and financial analysis
  • Communication of analysis and recommendation to senior management
  • Developing junior finance talent with skillsets in advanced analysis and communication


Reporting Structure:

  • Position reports directly to the Director of Data Science & Intelligence
  • Position has a team of 1 or more director reports
  • Position has a team of dotted line reports embedded in Corning’s business segments


Travel Requirements:

  • Negligible


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Monday – Friday, standard business hours.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Finance, Accounting, or Operations Management
  • MBA degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3+ years in a leadership role, preferably with a technical team
  • Experience in strategic decision making

  • Able to communicate analysis insights to a broad audience including senior management
  • Able to lead and develop talent - both direct reports and within other organizations
  • Can develop solutions to complex business problems that are not well defined
  • Has a working knowledge of business financial documents - Income Statement, Cash Flow, Balance Sheet
  • Understands key analytical methods and how they can be applied to solve business problems
  • Strong written and oral communication skills combined with ability to simplify complex concepts and translate these matters to operational actions
