Scope of Position:

  • The individual will work closely with Engineering, Development, and manufacturing teams to lead capital and expense projects involving new technology development and transfer, continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, and manufacturing cost reduction.
  • Working closely with commercial teams, the individual will also lead projects to improve product attributes and solve product technical issues at customers.

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Work in cross functional teams and apply traditional project methodologies of performance.
  • Interface with Development and Plant Engineering to define and lead experimental trials of new products, processes, and technology.
  • Support technology assessments of glass finishing processes used in Auto glass manufacturing and apply the fundamentals and engineering principles to minimize glass defects, reduce cycle time and cost
  • Engage in the manufacturing process development work including experiment planning, data analysis & reporting results.
  • Interface with Commercial teams to resolve technical issues at customer.
  • Collaborate with Development groups in advancing fundamental understanding & evaluating new process and/or product ideas.
  • Lead scale-up and transfer of feasible technologies to manufacturing.
  • Lead projects to design and develop new processes or improve existing processes at AGS facilities worldwide
  • Use hands-on approach to solve problems and improve processes /equipment based on fundamental understanding and structured problem-solving methods such as KT, Designed Experimentation, or Six Sigma
  • Implement Process Control and Process Discipline systems into manufacturing operations
  • Analyze process data using statistical tools (e.g. pareto, regression, time charting, analysis of variance, gauge R&R, etc.)
  • Measure and communicate performance against established objectives
  • Review and interpret data to make recommendations on immediate actions, long term corrective actions, follow-up experiments, etc.

 

Required Skills:

  • Project management skills with related experience
  • Global experience – ability to operate cross-culturally
  • Able to navigate effectively within AGS, cross-functionally, and across Development, Engineering, and Manufacturing
  • Manufacturing and Engineering experience, with preferred experience in glass finishing
  • Innovation project experience
  • Process management skills – deep understanding of process setups and parameters, experimentation, and process control
  • Effective communications and change management.
  • Report to Steering Team on a regular basis
  • Tolerance of Ambiguity – Working in development environment with evolving requirements
  • Decision Making and Problem Solving – Able to review facts and weigh options using a systematic approach to solve problems
  • Communication Skills – Clearly present ideas (written and verbal); read and interpret complex information

  • Planning/ Prioritizing/ Goal Setting – Manage multiple projects; establish plan and use goals to guide actions; schedule people and tasks to complete projects
  • Knowledge of process control/analysis techniques, including DOE, SPC, Six Sigma, etc.

Travel Requirements:

  • Estimate travel up to 30% depending upon specific project assignment.
  • Travel may be required during installation, debug, and start-up as well as for routine interaction with Customers and Suppliers.
  • This would be a combination of domestic and international travel.
  • International travel would most commonly be to Asia or Europe.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Advanced engineering degree or MBA is a plus
  • 5+ years in a Technical Field
  • 2+ years in project and technology management
  • Cross-functional and global team working experience
  • Experience in an industrial environment, manufacturing plant, or manufacturing support
  • Glass finishing experience
  • Capital project management experience
