Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The New Product Business Development Manager (NPBDM) will lead the strategic development and execution of key new product programs within the PCS team excluding NVIDIA and Broadcomm. The initial intent of the position is to lead the commercial and business development activities for any new identified programs. This role will focus on setting the strategic direction and executing the overall business strategy related to these programs and will lead all strategic, commercial and business/product line activities on the program team until it transfers to a PLM other designation. The NPBDM will work closely with their cross-functional teams and base business PLMs to set business priorities. In addition to application and product understanding, this role will require building and developing strong partnerships with key customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Creation and implementation of the business strategy including strategic business plans, goals and objectives
- Early stage value proposition development and identification of new product and service opportunities to enable new/enhanced selling opportunities with customers
- Understand the application/customer environment and roadmap, in collaboration with Commercial Technology, Applications Engineering
- Work with global teams and the strategy organization to monitor competitor activity and determine critical threats and corrective actions
- Understand current supply chain complexities and interactions
- Execute critical partnership or strategic relationships (could include CMs, JV or potential M&A) in conjunction with regional and corporate groups
- Work with cross-functional teams to establish product criteria to meet customer needs
- Determine product strategy, segmentation and customer targeting
- Establish the 4Ps -Product, Price, Placement and Promotion for Trident
- Work closely with commercial technology to develop product value props
- Work with the cross-functional to develop the overall program business case
- Guide and support Commercial Technology initiated initiatives
- Manage the new product introductions and determine how each is enabled within the value chain
- Direct interaction and management of customer product expectations and introduction sampling needs for Trident products and Digital Twin data requirements
- Ensure functional effectiveness to meet defined KPIs
- Work closely with Sales, Product Line, Manufacturing and Commercial Technologies to understand customer needs
- Work with Sales to execute a pricing strategy by setting target and floor pricing as needed, influencing pricing structure, optimizing product premiums, and ensuring value and profitability for product line also determining where the appropriate value chain step(s) are to monetize product value
- Manage and provide guidance on finding the optimal solution (balancing the needs of Corning and the customer) to develop the business case for new products related to performance (i.e., specs, attributes, services), quality, share growth, customer needs (contract management)
Required Education
Technical Science degree or equivalent experience
Work experience in a commercial function over 10+ year period
Work experience in a global company
Commercial team management or PLM experience over a 5+ year period
Demonstrated track record of implementing solutions
Experience of leading multi-functional teams
Work experience in a commercial function
Ability to set strategy, drive results and hold people accountable
Strong stakeholder management

The range for this position is $151,673.00 - $208,551.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
