Role Purpose
Join Corning’s Organic Materials Directorate as a summer intern supporting research in polymer synthesis, coatings, and formulation development. This group provides expertise in coatings, inks, and adhesives to solve technical challenges across Corning’s diverse businesses. Interns will work under the guidance of experienced scientists, contributing to experimental design, execution, and data analysis. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain industrial research experience in a collaborative and innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and maintain a safe laboratory environment
- Assist scientists in planning and executing experiments aligned with project goals
- Prepare samples and conduct routine testing using standard lab equipment
- Collect, analyze, and summarize experimental data
- Document experimental procedures and results in lab notebooks and reports
- Support lab organization, inventory management, and equipment upkeep
- Participate in team meetings and present findings as appropriate

Experiences/Education - Required
- Currently pursuing a B.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science
- Completion of relevant coursework in organic or polymer chemistry is required.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and safety protocols
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May 27-July 31, 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
- Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.

Experiences/Education - Desired
- Experience with coatings, adhesives, or polymer synthesis
- Exposure to mechanical testing (e.g., Instron)
- Familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., JMP or similar)

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
