Scope of Position:

  • In this role you will develop and support imaging diagnostic and analysis capabilities for the Technical Imaging Laboratory within the Clean, Surfaces and Imaging group. This includes supporting all Corning business divisions and all stages of product innovation through the application of imaging diagnostics and advanced image analysis through the Technical Imaging Laboratory.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • To lead the automation and systems integration of custom image/optical based diagnostics (developed by the Technical Imaging Laboratory) with various Corning manufacturing technologies for process investigations.
  • To support the development of custom triggering/synchronization/automation systems for optical diagnostic deployment.
  • Assist senior staff in the deployment of unique image diagnostic systems and corresponding data analysis techniques.
  • Assist senior staff with the development of custom image processing/analysis software.
  • Conduct hands on work in a laboratory environment and maintain the smooth operation of the laboratory and associated materials.
  • Maintaining contacts with groups outside of RD&E to facilitate problem identification and solutions.
  • Document work and generate IP as appropriate.
  • Communicate project status and updates to work group

Travel Requirements:

  • We travel <25%, internationally and domestically. Some Flexibility required.

Required Education:

  • We require a BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field

Required Skills:

  • Deep knowledge with systems integration and automation, both electrical and software
  • LabView (Above Average)
  • Matlab (Average)
  • Exposure to imaging hardware, optics, and illumination sources (lasers, LEDs, etc)
  • Knowledge and experience of statistical analysis
  • Creative/innovative problem solving skills unique to image capture and setup in dynamic environments
  • Organized with good planning and time management skills to balance multiple priorities
  • Strong laboratory and experimental practices
  • The ability to learn new technologies and processes quickly
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written, including accurate recording of experiments, creating detailed documents, and reporting out or presentation within team.

  • Some level of mechanical aptitude/equipment understanding
