Scope of Position:

  • Our overall goal is to improve new or existing processes at Corning facilities worldwide by applying scientific method to identify and eliminate mechanisms affecting process performance. Typical aspects include materials, equipment modifications, and process parameters.
  • As a process engineer you would collaborate with individuals spanning Research, Development, Engineering and Manufacturing to advance process capability through design and execution of critical experiments.
  • Appropriately communicate and document work, including reports, operating procedures, and presentations.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Working with team, you would select, procure, install, and run process and metrology equipment. Recommend improvements and make modifications if needed.
  • Apply structured problem-solving methods, such as Kepner-Trego or Designed Experiments, to analyze data to improve understanding and test solutions.
  • Analyze process data using statistical tools (e.g. pareto, regression, time charting, analysis of variance, gauge R&R, etc.) to identify potential problems and recommend immediate actions.
  • Document and report out experimental plans, procedures, and results to team.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • 25% on average, depending on the projecting requirements.
  • Includes international travel.

 

Required Education:

  • Minimum BS in chemical, materials, ceramic, or mechanical engineering.

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong lab and experimental practices; can understand and recognize deviations and implement routine solutions.
  • Experience building or modifying equipment, including CAD skills to design and document changes.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively with teams across organizations.
  • Strong data analysis and visualization skills.
  • Basic understanding and application of standard engineering or scientific theories, concepts, principles, and techniques.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Active learner willing to dig into new technology and materials processes.
  • Experience with hot material process, such as glass melting and forming.
  • Capability with measurement and data acquisition.
  • Innovation experience.
