Role Purpose

As a Product Line Manager (PLM), you will be responsible for developing and executing a product line strategy that supports the achievement of desired product line sales growth and profitability for the Gorilla Glass business.  This includes engaging in decisions on defining what products to develop and offer, building value proposition and selling tools, assisting with forecasting, and serving as a key collaborator with the Gorilla Glass commercial, finance, manufacturing, quality, and engineering organizations for day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Works closely with, or leads, a cross-functional product team consisting of functional leads from Development, Product Engineering, Applications Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing and/or Sales to:
  • Develop value propositions that improve margins for Corning’s products and services and enable new/enhanced selling opportunities with customers
  • Develop and execute the product line planning process, including the identification of critical projects to be undertaken for the year
  • Work with Program Management to develop and launch new products, as appropriate.
  • Develop the product line strategy and manage the product line through the stages of innovation, from product concept through commercialization and life-cycle management, as appropriate depending on the stage of handoff from Program Management.
  • Understand downstream market requirements and assess competitive threats and implications for the business
  • Understand and manage all profit &loss related items of the product line
  • Address new product/special requests by developing a business case (including P&L and balance sheet implications) to determine the feasibility and pricing requirements of the requests
  • Optimize inventory management related to the product line by coordinating information flow, as needed, between Forecasting, Sales, Manufacturing, and other parties as needed.
  • Work with Manufacturing and Sales to identify opportunities to reduce complexity and cost reduction in the manufacturing process both at Corning plant(s) and the customer site, as appropriate.
  • Manage the obsolescence process, as necessary, to extract maximum value through the end of the product‚ lifecycle
  • Support the development of product pricing strategies
  • Articulate our value propositions, product attributes, specifications, basis of competition and product trajectory; become expert on downstream use of our products
  • Provide and maintain necessary sales tools such as positioning statement, value proposition presentation, and other sales tools to customer-facing organizations to ensure effective deployment of product line strategies
  • Work with legal and sales teams to define contractual terms and participate in the approvals of the supply agreement process
  • Work with marketing communications to support development of external communications, including product collateral, tradeshow and conference materials, press releases, public relations, web communications and social media as appropriate

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Required: Bachelor degree. 
  • 3+ years of business or management or related leadership experience
  • Strong analytical skills with able to turn quantitative analysis into meaningful business insights
  • Demonstrated ability to interface and work in teams with people across functional and geographic boundaries
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage business relationships using combination of data driven analysis, strategic thinking, networking and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced working environment supporting the Mobile Consumer Electronics industry
  • Well-organized, process-oriented with systematic approach to problem solving
  • Self-starter, capable of fully owning a complex strategy project with limited supervision
  • Desire to grow into future commercial leadership roles

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Engineering, Applied Science, or technical degree
  • Desired: MBA or equivalent
  • Experience managing people
  • Work experience in Manufacturing and/or Development
  • Financial analysis and accounting experience
  • Work experience in a Strategy group
  • International business work experience
  • Participation in, or leadership of, multicultural and/or multi-geographic projects

The range for this position is $148,181.00 - $203,749.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
