Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group): The scope of this position is to contribute to the maximal operating efficiency of a micro/nano-fabrication research laboratory. This requires the ability to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, upgrade, and modify semiconductor processing equipment to support a portfolio of projects to support multiple Corning business divisions. This includes high vacuum deposition / etch, photolithography, wet chemical etch, and sophisticated metrology equipment. The position requires the successful candidate to proficiently operate in the mechanical, electrical, and chemical domains in a cleanliness-controlled environment.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Designs and builds equipment and process engineering infrastructure in a world class research lab

• Develops roadmaps, with the technical staff or vendor reps, for improvement in equipment/process performance

• Develops strategy to continually enhance equipment and processes

• Manages problem solving activities. Interface with managers, vendors and consultants.

• Manages equipment upgrades, installations, and modifications

• Proposes long-term equipment capability initiatives, based on input from Engineers, Scientists, Management, and knowledge of future research activities.

• Develops standards for equipment repair and preventive maintenance procedures.

 

Travel requirements (please note if international): < 20%, domestic travel only.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hours per week. Flexibility exists outside core work hours of 8 AM to 4 PM, but within standard 6 AM to 6PM working hours.

 

Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration):

B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or closely related field and at least 10 years direct experience working with semiconductor processing tools.

 

Required Skills (These are skills that candidates must possess):

• Expertise sustaining and developing processes on vacuum/plasma equipment, including hands-on custom equipment modifications to provide new or enhanced capability.

• Expertise in developing control hardware and/or software for process equipment.

• Expertise in solving complex equipment / process problems.

• Extensive project management experience.

• Advanced troubleshooting of both physical vapor deposition and chemical vapor deposition processing tools, including expertise in vacuum and plasma diagnostics.

 

Desired Skills (these are the skills that would be nice for candidates to possess):

• Experience in cleanroom design and build activities.

• Custom reactor design and construction experience

• Demonstrated small team / lab leadership experience

 

Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership):

• Ability to communicate up to senior leadership on status and direction of major projects.

• Ability to work well with a wide range of personalities in a dynamic, research-based environment
