Scope of Role

Materials Forming Technologies capability group is seeking a Forming engineer to provide support to Development, Engineering, and Manufacturing in the hot end of the Research Melters. In this role, you will work between research, development, and operations, developing and executing glass forming experiments, supporting process improvement projects, maintaining stable operations of forming platforms, and produce samples to internal/external customers.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Work in a team-based environment, participating as an individual contributor.
  • Support project and process activities related to hot glass forming to teams or individuals, and drive process improvement based on data and strong technical evaluation.
  • Provide critical thinking or fundamental understanding to improve process or melter performance.
  • Apply sound understanding of engineering methods and best practices in proposing ideas or solutions to improve hot glass forming process performance.
  • Identify challenges and solutions in the forming area utilizing the network of forming SMEs.
  • Willingness to learn and become a subject matter expert with the forming equipment and processes.
  • Work in partnership with members of the adjacent teams to develop and execute daily and long-term experiment plans.
  • Contributes to the creation of objectives and uses creative approaches to support projects; will provide support for project workstreams, process, or task(s) with guidance.
  • Collaborate with world-wide plant locations to understand current best practices and challenges.

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in an Engineering field or Material Science required.
  • Minimum 5 yrs. experience in material or glass science and/or process engineering.
  • Contributes to an environment of respect and collaboration within and outside of their own work group.
  • Communicates effectively regarding assignments, openly shares ideas, values diversity of opinions, and demonstrates an ability to build trust across their work group or project team.
  • Influences peers, team(s), and management, and provides technical guidance. Identifies risks and makes recommendations as appropriate to guide next step decisions or plans.
  • Suggests enabling technologies that can be leveraged by the Technology Community for improvements of products or processes.
  • Ability to work in a plant environment and work with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to apply skills to solve process challenges.
  • Ability to learn new technology and processes quickly.
  • Creates objectives and uses creative approaches to support projects or create project opportunities, strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks/projects.
  • Flexible approach to engineering, able to change and adjust smoothly as the situation demands.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with process and data analysis including DMAIC, MEE, PEx and other problem-solving methodologies.
  • Works in a safe manner and prioritizes a safe workplace.
  • Document’s technical findings via technical reports and or patent applications.

Desired Experience

  • Master's degree
  • Experience with hot glass forming.
  • Experience with plant operation as a line owner, and/ or leading execution of plant experiments. 
  • Lead/support process startups.

The range for this position is $92,003.00 - $126,505.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
