Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):

This candidate will work in our research organization and will be focused on understanding and developing new materials and/or processes that allow Corning to maintain its technical leadership. Materials could include glass, ceramics and/or organics along with all of the processes and systems necessary to produce those materials. Research work will require that the candidate become familiar with new materials/technologies by keeping up to date on the current state-of-the art and researching past literature. In addition, the work will require working with existing research data to help solve technical or project related problems. The candidate should have experience with software that will be used or developed to both capture existing data and the management/manipulation of disparate data. The candidate should possess the ability to write code when necessary to solve particular problems.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Research all external and internal information relative to the problems identified by the project team

• Participate on cross functional teams to develop and test hypotheses related to materials and process understanding

• Interact and develop software tools to solve technical problems

• Communicate results to teams and stake-holders as needed

• Document findings with internal and external publications

 

Travel requirements (please note if international):

Limited travel, likely <10% but that could include international for conferences, et. al.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Normal Business Hours 8:00-5:00 with additional hours occasionally needed for urgent project demands.

 

Required Skills (These are skills that candidates must possess)

• Demonstrated experience and strong technical background

• Experience with Common Software Tools such as Python, Jupiter, C/C++, MATLAB et al.

 

Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration)

 Ph.D. or M.S in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field
