Scope of Position

This position will be responsible for analysis of polymeric related materials using mass spectrometry techniques or hyphenated mass spec techniques. A variety of methods may need developing to deliver the necessary information to customers. Customer interaction is necessary for establishing scope to develop a clear understanding of the requirements of the measurements for project support or improving manufacturing processes. Suggesting measurements and experiments is a strong requirement. Operating safely in the laboratory is required as well as maintaining a quality analysis program. Writing technical reports and contributing to intellectual property is also an expectation in this role.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Manages equipment and resources to keep lab running in a safely manner.
  • Designs and executes experiments to solve problems or develop new processes or products. 
  • Uses rigorous processes and technical knowledge to build fundamental understanding. 
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary team with other scientists, engineers, and technicians
  • Provides inputs and/or documents ideas with contributions to IDs, RTRs, NTRs as well as external publications. 
  • Makes recommendations for purchasing new equipment, including identifying vendors, collecting quotes and tracking orders. 
  • Identifies and articulates problems as well as develops and executes approaches to solving them. 
  • Provides day-to-day problem-solving support to Research, Development, and Manufacturing. 
  • Documents data and writes reports for laboratory processes and instrumentation. 
  • Identifies problems and opportunities of significance that are important to customers and markets. 
  • Makes technical presentations to customers and at conferences. 
  • Functions as a team member or team leader on focused projects. 
  • Trains or coaches new employees, technicians and interns, on laboratory processes, equipment and instrumentation. 
  • Supports and/or leads continuous improvement activities on products, processes, and cost reduction products.
  • Acts as a technical expert in a specific field. 

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or M.S. is required with a minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience particularly in fields closely aligned with polymer mass-spectrometry analysis.
  • Extensive experience in Mass Spectrometry (QTOF, quadrupole, ESI, MALDI, ion trap) 
  • Application of mass spectrometry analytical techniques to polymers and polymer additives
  • Instrument maintenance and repair
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

The range for this position is $79,566.00 - $109,404.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
