Role Purpose

The Sr. Technician, Chemistry supports Corning’s Organic Materials research activities by providing hands-on laboratory support for organic chemistry, synthesis, crystallization, and materials-related work within a small and growing research team. This role supports scientists through day-to-day lab execution, lab maintenance, sample and materials work, and materials analysis activities, while helping build synthetic capabilities for single organic crystals and related organic material systems. The position is best suited for someone with a strong chemistry foundation, comfort in a hands-on lab environment, and the willingness to learn new techniques and instrumentation as research needs evolve.

Key Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day laboratory activities including lab maintenance, organization, and readiness for ongoing research work
• Assist with synthesis and crystallization work, with emphasis on organic chemistry lab execution and hands-on experimental support
• Support materials and polymer-related lab activities, including sample handling and preparation as needed
• Perform materials analysis using relevant instrumentation such as TGA, DSC, or similar laboratory tools
• Work closely with a small team of scientists to support current synthetic capability development and evolving research priorities
• Learn new techniques, tools, and processes as needed to support the team’s research direction and future growth
• Maintain safe laboratory practices and support accurate execution of experimental work in a dynamic R&D setting

Experiences/Education – Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field
• Strong chemistry background, including completion of organic chemistry coursework
• Hands-on laboratory experience in an academic, industrial, or research environment
• Comfort working in a laboratory setting with strong attention to detail and safe chemical handling practices
• Ability to support multiple lab activities with flexibility and willingness to learn new techniques
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in a small team environment

Experiences/Education – Desired

• Background in organic chemistry, synthesis, or crystallization
• Exposure to materials or polymer science
• Experience with laboratory instrumentation such as TGA, DSC, or similar materials analysis tools
• Experience supporting scientists in a research or development environment
• Ability to ramp quickly in a small team and contribute across a range of evolving laboratory needs

The range for this position is $71,387.00 - $98,158.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
