Role Purpose

The intern will support the development of computational reliability model and tool for material fundamental understanding and product performance optimization using probability theory, machine leaning and molecular simulation with material and chemistry knowledge incorporations. This role provides learning and practical experience in a high-tech industrial environment, contributing to cutting-edge research and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • The intern will oversee performing suitable background literature searches and assist in executing a research plan.
  • Research exploration on new model ideas and implementation.
  • Learn new techniques and methods as needed to support the project objectives.
  • Understand material physics, develop model and algorithm, write codes, and deliver tool.
  • Interpretation of model output comparing with literature and experiment.
  • Data analytics, carry simulations, summarize, and communicate data.
  • Build fundamental understanding of material property to reliability performance.
  • Document the results of the research by the end of the summer and give a final presentation.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Pursuing MS or PhD in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Material Science, or similar discipline. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail; meticulous and deep thinking.
  • Enthusiasm for new topics and ideas; ability to develop a model plan to pursue.
  • Understanding of reliability theory and fundamentals.
  • Expertise in computational modeling, physics, and machine learning.
  • Proficiency in coding and algorithm development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information.
  • Experience working in a research lab and report writing.
  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2025 with a graduation date of December 2025 or later.
  • Be interested in working for Corning. Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.
  • Be willing to work at the posted job location(s).

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
